The sheets remind me of the classic ghost story "Oh Whistle and I'll come to you my lad" That story still scares me, and all it needed was bedsheets. Oh and a whistle
@Lilmisscostumedrama2 жыл бұрын
Yessssss! A short but terrifying story!
@kennethruskin27102 жыл бұрын
Aye, it does quite a bit, but I wouldn't say it was all that needed. The spectre manifesting in cloth is sadly the only thing this demo shares with that wonderful story by M.R. James. All the usual hackneyed tropes are employed, the writing on walls, the 'psychological horror' - meaning a nonsense setting and place, the note hunting. One of the issues with this is that when you convince the player anything can happen at any time what would otherwise be significant loses any impact. What made the written story work was how it was grounded. It took advantage of the antiquity of England and the surrounding mundanity made the impact of this bedsheet haunting all the more potent. Quoting M.R. James himself from a preface he penned: _I think that, as a rule, the setting should be fairly familiar and the majority of the characters and their talk such as you may meet or hear any day. A ghost story of which the scene is laid in the twelfth or thirteenth century may succeed in being romantic or poetical: it will never put the reader into the position of saying to himself, 'If I'm not very careful, something of this kind may happen to me!'_ Moreover, beyond how original such a ghost such as this is in the current horror landscape the rest of the demo seems like one big homage with little to say of its own. There are the drawings of every imaginable horror film, illustrations taken from the works of Lavater - although I'm not sure what's so dreadful about physiognomy - and of course it's also taking much, if not most, from that one faux indie game by Kojima, P.T., and other games too often mindlessly copied. How refreshing it would be if the entirety of it would be in the style of an M.R. James tale. Or better yet, entirely original.

Lots of movie references in the drawings in that kids bedroom. I spotted: Gremlins A Nightmare on Elm Street The Exorcist Child's Play The Neverending Story Beetlejuice ET Jaws The Addams Family and possibly Hook? There were a few more I couldn't figure out. That kid's got good taste though!

Now that I think about, the classic ghost made out of a sheet was associated with rumor of chains for some reason. And the place seems a detenction structure. But for who? For you or for the Sheet? Also, the hallaway with the bars is a neat nod to Silent Hill 2. Movies spotted: - Gremlins - E.T. - The Infinite Story(?)

some others i spotted - Scream - Wednesday Addams (the addams family) - Child's play - Beetlejuice - The Exorcist - Jaws

I just wrote something about this! The scary thing isn't some phantom in a bedsheet. That's not even a bedsheet - that's a veil. The ones they use in funeral services... It implies that there's a dead person underneath and it keeps roaming.
