This appears to be some of the same weather we just had in New England. Our town lost many roads last night (7/21). Homes flooded. People are trapped, land locked by total road washouts and failed culverts. Such a shame. So many suffer as this has been going on for two weeks. Entire town commercial districts have been devastated. 100 year floods are seemingly common in 2023. The ground is totally saturated and we are vulnerable to the next storm. Sympathies and good luck to all.

Thank you for posting this. I live on the top of the hill on the other side of the flooding behind Shoppers Drug Mart and the PetroCan - about three blocks away from Bedford Highway. My heart goes out to the homeowners and businesses that have been affected by this nightmare. Last month - wildfires. This month - flooding. What will August bring? It's like 2020 all over again. Nova Scotia Strong!!

So scary. I live on a floodplain in Drumheller Alberta. We are getting a berm built this year. I am very happy that flood mitigation is happening here. Many people are unhappy for various reasons but I feel blessed that we will be protected. There is no worse feeling than waking up to a notice that you have to evacuate your home. If you are lucky enough to have time to pack up some treasure. I say bring on the berm!

Remarkable footage. We lived off Riverside Dr. back in the 70s and I recall when a hurricane hit and reversed the Sackville River and flooded Sunnyside Mall. Wiped out a good portion of the Bedford Basin marina, too...and also snapped the oil rig loose in the harbour and sent it drifting towards the bridge (can't recall if it was the McKay or McDonald). Anyways, terrific drone shots. Stay safe. Won't be the last time Sackville River surprises everyone.

Thank you for this excellent footage. This certainly gives a unique perspective on the situation. Not the first time that the Sackville River has overflowed and likely will not be the last. I remember in 1971 (when we lived in Wellington) the Mall area was flooded. When the Bedford Mall was being planned the question was raised about the "flood plain" where the businesses and apartment buildings were being built. My heart goes out to everyone who has been affected by this latest storm, wherever they may live or work. Thanks to all first-responders who have stepped in to help those in danger or distress. Many stories will likely come to light of unsung heroes from the general population who have stepped up to help others in their time of need. Thank you one and all.❤

@@stevemcconnell4937 Thanks just the same. I've tried lookin' it up but came up empty. Yeah, it was a bad one. I remember it hitting the first time, then got real calm as the eye passed, then we got nailed again. I heard bookies in Halifax were taking bets whether the bridge would shear off the oil rig tower, or if the rig would take out the bridge, lol.

Thank-you Mr. Cyr, We lived on Rocky Lake Drive just up from the Baptist church for 17 years. Sometimes the ball field would floodand maybe Sun Tower..I'll bet the tide was in at the outflow end into the Basin, that acts like a plug. The Superstore and adjacent Bedford Place Mall were built on the flood plain...Our City Planners need to go back to school and retain the service of a trained Drainage Engineer!

Im a former Haligpnian living i southern ontario. I truly believe that developers dont care where they build. Subdivisions are popping up all over ontario. Wetlands that are supposed to be protected being sold out to the highest bidder. Where will ot stop.

@davidwalsh5756 Жыл бұрын
@@rayogrady4349 Download the video to demonstrate what happens when competent drainage engineering is ignored. I know for a fact that the municipal administration was advised of this very hazard before development of this wetland was permitted. It rests on we the people to advocate for these protections and ensure that we the people are not further burdened through our taxes paying lawyers and lawsuits for those whom are harmed. One of the flooded stores will have an uninsured flood loss over $ 4 million dollars in losses.

It started to rain just before I got off the highway, when i turned onto Hammond plains road it started pouring, I couldn’t even see the road, thought about pulling over, but then I figured maybe I was close enough to make it to my cousins. I just followed traffic and watched my gps, cause I couldn’t see out my car window to see the streets. Im so thankful to god who kept me safe and got me to my cousins on Equine ct. Well it did eventually but like with most flooding the water bottlenecks and cant exit quickly enough so over the banks of the river it goes until it has enough time to drain out.

There are wet spots, but the city being on a hill helped. I think there were some flooding issues around Joe Howe road in Fairview, and the Cogswell Exchange downtown which is currently under construction. Also in the South End where there's some buried streams. Bedford, Sackville, and Windsor Junction area really seem to have it the worst in the HRM.

This has always been the result od complacency over 1000's of years building in the lowlands. There is a reason that the high ground has always been the preferred strategic location. Lowlands are for production not habitation. Man, will humans ever learn? Cheers.

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗗𝗼 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗠𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗮 𝗕𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗟𝗶𝗳𝗲? The still, vegetative and animate levels of nature are the only ones in a state of balance, because they have no free choice. They make no decisions as to whether they should behave one way or another, but they behave according to their inborn nature. We people, however, act according to our decisions that are higher than our inborn nature. We thus use these levels of nature-still, vegetative and animate, which are below our human level-egoistically, bending them however we wish for personal benefit. We thus destroy and empty the planet, plant life, animals, and eventually also people, due to the egoistic way we relate to each other and nature. The system we live in was set up so that we reach a state of mutual consideration, encouragement and support. That is the key to entering into a state of balance with nature. By acting contrarily, with calculations of self-benefit overriding those of benefiting each other and nature, we then knock ourselves out of balance with nature. Then, we experience this imbalance as suffering on personal, social and economic scales, and also as ecological blows, whether it be earthquakes, floods, wildfires, pandemics and several other phenomena that we call “natural disasters.” The more we head into the future without transforming our attitudes to each other and nature-from egoistic to altruistic-then the more we will experience our tightening interdependence negatively. However, if we start relating in a considerate, supportive and encouraging way to each other, then we will see how nature also relates positively to us. Accordingly, we will unlock a new balanced, harmonious and peaceful existence.
