This is a completely different story of medusa and Athena than I’ve ever heard. It’s really interesting to hear all the different versions out there. Wonderful story as usual.

In the version I know, Medusa is a priestess at a temple of Athena, taking a vow of chastity like all of her priestesses did, and then is raped by Poseidon who sees her one day and is struck by her beauty. (Like that's any excuse.) Then the worse version: Athena transforms Medusa as punishment for breaking her vow or because they had sex in her temple (which was a big taboo), or in the better version, so that she can protect herself from men who'd take advantage of her. Then later she helps Perseus kill Medusa because the story of Perseus and Medusa was written long before Medusa's backstory. It is a bit more consistent between both stories though if you go with the worse backstory where Athena's mad at Medusa.

Athena being jealous of Medusa is internalised misogyny 😢 I'd like to think she transformed her so Medusa could protect herself from possible future abusers . I like Athena very much and I can't bear thinking she'd do such thing to someone who literally worshipped her 😢

@@OzmaOfOzzYeah that's my favourite interpretation of the myth. I don't think it's intended by any of the men who ever wrote the story down, any of the ancient versions at least, but it certainly makes sense in a way and is a much kinder interpretation of Athena.
