You really need to watch the official video, it will make you laugh. There is also a “the making of” video that they explain exactly what this song meant to them. You truly will get to see a touch of their humor. I don’t think they they took themselves too serious except when they were in the recording studio or on stage. I also think this was their last video prior to Maurices’ death which ended the group. There’s another video out there where Robin & Barry are being interviewed & sing together for the first… & last time. It’s pretty moving & sad.

In an interview they explained that this song is about the breakup they had in the late 60's early 70's. The media, girlfriends, managers, agents etc.. were telling each brother that they were the actual lead artist and that they didnt need the other 2. They argued with each other in the press, and would read things that the others had said about them. Being very young it broke up the band. They got back together some 15months or so later and though they had released solo hits in the brek they found it a\was not as satisfying or fun without each other.

Probably my favorite Bee Gees song of all time (if one can pick a favorite from their enormous and unparalleled catalog) Appropriate that it was the first song on their last album. I think it is a look back at their career as a band (and the life that singers lead), their relationships with women, and their bond as family. Thank you for reacting to this masterpiece.

For Whom the Bell tolls, Run to me, Fanny be tender with my love, Jive Talkin, Stayin Alive, How can you mend a broken heart, To Love Somebody, Massachusetts, New York Mining Disaster. Bell Tolls is about his brother, Andy's broken relationship and descent into drugs. Pretty amazing as is Wish you were here.

It’s just a song about themselves and things they had gone through the last 30 years before they wrote it and how things never seem to change. Maurice said he used two old guitars that belonged to the Beatles when they recorded the song. So cool! Great reaction to this awesome song!

They are so clever with their lyrics. It can mean anything you want it to mean. What it means to your personally. I understood it to mean to them their career in general. All along the line people telling them they wouldn’t make it, it couldn’t be done. But they proved everyone wrong over and over again. Every time…this is where I came in. And they are always here for us in their music. Their video for the song references a van that harks back to their first days here in Australia. As I said, so so clever and ridiculously talented.

You should watch the video that goes with this song. It is really funny and they are just cutting loose. If you watch that video the lyrics will make more sense. When Robin sings about "I'll go anywhere with you" I think he is talking about Maurice. If you see a guitarist with tattoo sleeves and a beard, that is Barry's son Stephen.

I agree with foots2006. They started together. Barry has interviewed saying how sorry he was that he wasn’t a good place with each brother when each died, so I think that’s the sins. But they always worked it out, never stopped loving each other and it was like it was always where they left off (came in).

🥀Amazing video but I've been trying to figure out what exactly what they mean. They have alot of tunes that their talking about ppl close to them. Thank's for posting this video 🥀☝️

Supa dupa done, Chad! Lead Guitar = Alan Kendall, nearly 30 Years belongin' to them in good and bad, that speaks a lot, such a good fellow! And yes, they're often spreading messages, in this case also to their millions of fans as to many so called musicexperts, which handled them bad. We all know, who survived. Pure Genius always wins! But back to hidden messages, for example: 1968, Single "World", 1969, Single "Tomorrow, Tomorrow" and in songs like "Paper Mache, Cabbages And Kings" or the well known "You Win Again". And please pay attention to their album "Horizontal", from 1968. The songs "The Change Is Made", "Lemons Never Forget", "The Earnest Of Being George", "With The Sun In My Eyes" and "Really And Sincirely" will leave your mouth wide open.

I think it is about the '69/70 break up when various different elements were telling the boys they could do better without their brothers. For some it was the media lying that their brother bad mouthed them in other cases there were other ploys. 'Forgive them all their sins; they know not what they do' was spoken by Jesus Christ as he was Crucified. (Not sure I like it here) but they mean they are over it and are willing to continue onwards with their childhood pledge to each other as maturer adults.

React again, but with the official video!!!! The song (and video) is autobiographical. “They cannot take away (the gift) what you (God) have given me. They know not what they do. Forgive them of their sins.” They are referencing the hateful anti-Bee Gees movement after their super success in the late 70’s. They turned to writing for others in the 80’s, were very successful, and came back with “You Win Again.” Then made the clearest statement of purpose in “Immortality” that says,”I will make them give to me.... Immortality...” They will live on through their music. They always wanted respect, not just of fans, but of their peers. After the official video to this song, please react to Immortality.
@patriciaeddy76293 жыл бұрын
Their music is so unique and distinctively Bee Gees. There is no group like them! I know they sound as immediate as I know any one of the Beatle tunes. Love so much more the Bee Gees songs. Barry and Robin are so much more important as song writers to America than, Lennon / McCartney. Geniuses are actually what they were and Barry still remains. Such lovely tunes Barry and Robin turned out with such real feeling during so many years. But, the Beatles are the ones the Bee Gees are judged by and that's... Not Fair!

The best documentary on the Bee Gees is the 2001 “This is Where I Came In”. (NOT the recent HBO doc). It has all 3 brothers. Learn the history behind hit songs, their lives from the beginning - both professional and personal. Told by the brothers themselves. The documentary is uplifting, full of great music, and clips you may never have seen. (The HBO documentary was made after Maurice and Robin had passed. It’s tinged with sadness, doesn’t really let you get to know the brothers.) Here’s the link if you’re interested: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iIqrZHiPlreGp7c You should also watch the official music video of This Is Where I Came In. It’s great! Regarding the meaning of the song....I once heard Barry say that they didn't like to talk too much about what their songs mean. They intentionally want to leave their songs open to interpretation. Every once in a while you can catch them saying a little something about a song. But they want their listeners to each take something s little different about them.
