Sorry, but I'm going to make a personal comment here ... Your face just exudes kindness, tenderness and has a sweetness about it, while maintaining a very masculine quality also (& not just the beard. lol). I'm just an old 74 yr old romantic and those qualities are hard to find in men these days. Nice to see! ☺

This is Barry Gibbs favorite song he wrote this for his wife.
@tracynorman145510 ай бұрын
@charlesstraight5499 It was written for Otis Redding but he died before he could record it. Barry said the song was actually about their manager. Barry Gibb explained in a June 2001 interview with Mojo magazine: It was for Robert (Stigwood). I say that unabashedly. He asked me to write a song for him, personally. It was written in New York and played to Otis but, personally, it was for Robert. He meant a great deal to me. I don't think it was a homosexual affection but a tremendous admiration for this man's abilities and gifts.[11]

There's a great BeeGees song that features Maurice who always let the light shinecon Barry and Robin. It's calked Man in the Middle. About being a peacemaker and also about his addiction to alcohol. It's one of my favorites.

Listen to the original recording they did ... powerful and when Barry sings "I'm a man, can't you see who I am, I live and I breath for you" SO POWERFUL. You should listen to that version to get the feel of this song. They wrote this song for Otis Redding to record but because he passed before he could record it, they recorded it themselves. As I said in an earlier comment, I truly believe this song was really meant for them because it needs their 3 voices to give it that special sound that in the end made it special and a hit for them.

To tell you about the quality of character in the Gibb brothers: Barry Gibb had said they also gave the song to Bee Gees manager Robert Stigwood for his birthday. It wasn't meant in a homosexual way, but with a sense of deep gratitude for all that Stigwood had done for the brothers. Stigwood, who was "like an uncle," has said it was his favorite song by them.

Although I love all of the concert videos of the Bee Gees I have to say that you're doing yourself a great diservice by mostly watching those later concerts. I love watching the videoes from like 1967 to the early 70's. I'm 70 years old and was only about 13 or 14 when they broke onto the scene. I loved watching them on the Ed Sullivan Show just as much as I enjoyed watching the Beatles a few years before in 1964. There are also a lot od videos from British tv shows that you might want to watch. In the time period I'm talking about I was about 14, the twins were about 17 and Barry was around 20. I love seeing them again on the videos when they were teenagers. They were so cute. 😊

Great, great song, so good sung by Barry. And in the chorus, together with Rob'n Mo, it gets to perfection. All three of them are genius songwriters and singers. Baz'n especially Mo also very good instrumentalists. Tell'ya one thing, the more you're divin' into their art of music, the more you're gonna be surprised of their ability, to match really every genre music has to offer. And in many comments you're gonna read things like "Robin has the best vocals" or 'Maurice is the one" and "Barry is keeper of my heart forever". Truth is, equality reigns! No Gibb over the other. The real magic is the three of them. So please to react to 'Words' (leadvocals Barry), 'And The Sun Will Shine' (Robin) and 'Trafalgar' (Maurice).
@AlamoDame72 жыл бұрын
My sentiments exactly!! Yes, Robin's unique and heart-melting; Mo is such a gifted musician and so sexy; Barry is THE MAN-- but they are three together incomparable, over-the-moon legendary, and beloved as all-get-out. When Barry goes, I don't think I could get over it. No more Bee Gees sharing our earthly space.
@mzphillips53 Жыл бұрын
Words is I think, my favorite of their songs. On To Love Somedody on the record you'll hear somebody hit a really high at the end of the song. After they sing "to love Somebody to love Somebody, the way I love you." Mo chimes in with the really high "OH, no. You don't know what it's like." Mo could hit the high notes right along with the other two. He just didn't get as much credit.

With that said I recommend you check out WORDS from this same concert. Barry sings this pretty much alone and you will see how he reacts with the audience and they with him, plus it's a beautiful song and has been covered by many artists including Elvis. FYI....their first number one hit was Spicks And Specks in Australia and they heard about it on the boat relocating back to Britain. They get back to Britain and nobody had ever heard of them LOL The Bee Gees rabbit-hole is a blast!

It has become their most covered song by others artists. Artists like Tom Jones, Michael Bolton, Michael Buble, Bonnie Tyler, Kim Carnes, Janis Joplin and many more. There has been released more than 200 covers of this.

They did write To Love Somebody for Otis, but then decided to 1st record it themselves, for their album “Bee Gees 1st” (recorded March-April 1967). They released it as a single June 1967. Otis died approx 6 months later, Dec. 10, 1967. I saw an interview where they said Otis did hear it & liked it, & they understood he intended to later cover it, but he died before that happened).

Hey, Kathy here - I LOVE this song and so glad you chose it. I grew up on listening to the Bee Gees, and this one was a favorite of mine. You want to see another version of this one? There was a Tribute to the Bee Gees, and Keith Urban, a country legend, was asked to perform this one. Barry and his wife of over 50 years was sitting in the audience. Keith not only sang it beautifully, but he is a master on the guitar, and he did a brief solo and brought the roof down on this song. And speaking of "singing" for someone, if I'm not mistaken, this one was for Barry's wife. Thanks for your reaction.

His album Greenfields that came out in 2021 was Barry doing duets with famous country artists. You should check it out. He wrote this song for Otis Redding who died before he could record it, so they did, back in the late 60s. The fact that it has been covered by so many people since then speaks to how good it is. But the Bee Gees did it best.

This song they wrote for Otis Redding but he never got to record it because he passed I think a few months after they wrote it. They decided to record it themselves. It was one of their big hits in the beginning along with Massachusetts. I can hear Otis Redding singing this but I think it was meant to be theirs in the end. Barry gives the back story of the song in one of the interviews where he talks about their beginning story.
