Bee House Cascading Page Mini Album Tutorial

Hi all! I have a fun tutorial for you using the awesome papers by Tamra of Country Craft Creations called "Bee House". These papers are so beautiful and the detail is stunning. You will love this paper collection, I promise.
I had a request for a configuration page that was made with 8 1/2 x 11" papers, and I came up with something super easy and fun to do. The fun part of this album is that the pages cascade/graduate in size. They are all made with the same size paper, but they are just scored and cut just a little differently to create a huge variety of pages. I will go over all of that in the video. There are 5 pages, the first is 4 1/2" wide, then they graduate up to the last page which is 6 1/2" wide.

Cardstock to cover the Chipboard: (I used Artisan Black for this)
2 - 9 x 9
1 - 6 x 9

I did mat the patterned paper on the front of the album with Artisan Summer Ivory. I used 4 pieces at 6 7/8 x 6 7/8, two for the outside of the covers and 2 for the inside covers. I also cut a piece 2 7/8 x 6 7/8 for the outside spine.
Pages:
5 - 8 1/2 x 11
From the scraps from cutting the pages above from the 12 x 12 Artisan Black, you will have 1" pieces. I used these for pocket connectors/hinges. I scored them down the middle at 1/2" and then cut them to fit the pockets. I go over all of this in the tutorial.
Waterfalls (Stacked, one for the front and one for the back inside covers)
2 - 6 x 9 1/2
2 - 6 x 8 1/2
Waterfall closures (trimmed to make tag shapes)
4 - 3 1/2 x 3
Out of the scraps I made a variety of tags and photo mats that I added to the pockets. I also used 2 extra pieces of Artisan Black for this purpose.
The triangle pocket under the front cover waterfall was made with a scrap left over, as is the pocket under the back cover waterfall. These were "after thought" pockets, and are optional.

Looks like I'm making my very first mini album! Your explanation on how to cut each of the pages was very clear and I love the diagrams! It makes it easy for me to see how everything folds and comes together nicely :) So far I've just cut and scored the 5 pages but that was a breeze thanks to your tutorial and I only stuffed up twice so far which is pretty good for me haha

The deep yellow seam binding is lovely in this album! Fussy cut bees look great on those little tags. Really well engineered pages...wonderful samples and instructions!! They are added like a waterfall. Start 1/2” in from the left edge of the spine and glue down. Add the remaining pages the same way as a waterfall except for the last. Add the last’s pages 1/2” tab directly on top of the tab of the previous page, essentially kind of backwards. That way no tabs are visible before or after the first and last page. You should have 1/2” gussets before and after the pages and also inbetween.

I love this album! I have a Mintay Christmas paper collection that I'm going to use for this book. I was creating the pages to be prepared and noticed on the second page instead of cutting off that 3/4" from below the spine attachment, snip it horizontally only and fold it backwards to use as the closer/connector for the pocket! "Happy mistake" lol

Hi. I love this, I’m just not sure how you joined the pages to the album. Just wondering if you glue down the half inch and have the quarter inch up from the spine and then the pages. If this is how you do it, is there a fair bit of wear on the quarter inch piece. Do you have a tutorial as to how to join it that I could source please. Great album!

You are right. They are built into the page scores. The 1/2" score on the left side of the diagram is the hinge that attaches directly to the spine. The 1/4" score is a "give space" that just gives a little extra room for the pages to turn, essentially lifting it off of the spine. I attach the first hinge 1/2" in from the edge of the spine, then layer the rest of the pages after that, lining up the edges of the next piece. I have never had any problem with the 1/4” pieces, but I use Artisan Cardstock and it is extremely durable. Michelle I’m being very careful in measuring and cutting my Bee paper so I have enough for the book.The pockets are 2” in height. Did you cover the whole inside of the pockets with the paper above the pockets or did you only come down 1/2” to use the remaining part of that paper somewhere else? Thanks!
