Nice to see the bees out again. This fall and winter has been a grind. Let's hope we catch a break with some decent weather for mid April. Pulled mine out on Friday at this point I'm showing a 11% loss. Have a few with dysentery. Have the syrup on and they're flying. I know there was a lot of pollen in the hive in the fall so I'm suspecting it may be that canola pollen from late fall. That's just an assumption on my part nothing else. Anyway fingers crossed will let you know how May 1st looks lol.

I'd hoped to do assessments asap but today's plans were made for me otherwise and the weather will be bad for two more. There's always woodshop to keep me busy. The bees are fed, that's the most important thing. I'm glad your bees are looking good.

The value of glow plugs cannot be underestimated!!! Glad to see them out, mud or not. Happy for your minimal losses. For what your bees have to go thru and to make it happen in singles for that long, well, I think that's a great winter for you. Happy for you and ready to see your season pro-gress Brad!!

Thanks Mike. Once the apiary dries up some, and a bit warmer days come along, I might actually get to open the covers hahahaha! I appreciate the well wishes and positive energy!

Very nice. Lot of work you put in there. Next weekend the weather sounds better for us I think. Today we got close to 50 F here in central MN with light winds. Had a few bees flying but still no pollen coming from the silver maples. Should be soon if we could warm up a bit. Happy for your 90% survival. Thanks for the video.

Like hearing the low numbers on the winters loss. Nice to see not everyone is having the losses we keep hearing about.

I agree, and I'm so glad that I didn't have a high loss to report. Thanks for watching!

Wow Brad great video! Dennis and I have been watching your videos do so long we feel like you’re an old friend💕we both were happy that you spent Sunday with your wife!💞sooo glad you finally got the ladies back out! So glad your losses were horrible! From what Ian was saying losses in your area this year are worse than most years! May God continue to bless you and yours!💕

Thanks, Meloney! I'm so glad you enjoy my videos! Some have had big losses but a lot of those I talk to are doing ok. It almost looks like the bigger operators are losing more, percentage wise, than the smaller operators are. Thanks for the blessing. God is with me!

You had a busy weekend and you were able to get syrup on them, good job man; moving is my least favorite. 10% is great for this winter in Canada. What is easy to overlook because it only last untill the snow melts is the tractor trenches and boot tracks of water that will kill quite a lot of those poor bees once they take flight. Maybe I worry too much like Ian. I had to abandon a few different yards because so many were lost. Its not the death of the colony but it is a set back; and was miserable to work in. Not a good time of year to loose extra bees. I had gravel hauled in on some of my yards because I owned those properties like yourself, another plus side is no mowing or weed wacking.

Yes, it was a very busy and productive weekend. starting work at 6:30 am really helps a guy get a few things accomplished. You are correct about that water, there's not a viable solution in my future though. Thanks for the suggestions.

How did you get the lids off the old jars?
@ThatBeeMan2 жыл бұрын
Hi Joe. Most came off no problem but some where a real bear! I wanted to rinse them a bit so I had my garden hose sprayer connected to the hot water at the house. If you don't have a hot water tap outside, you really need to get one installed! I warmed the metal ring with hot water, wearing a leather grove on left hand to grip the ring, bear-hug the jar in right hand and they eventually came off. Not more than 4 out of 70 jars were much of a struggle. The jars are so easy to fill and transport that I was considering going back to jars for my spring feeding. In eight years I have yet to break one so that's not my main fear.I also like jars because I can see the syrup level and the bees normally access virtually all the syrup, which never happens with a pail. Thanks for watching!

Ok. I gotta ask. How did you get that aerial shot at the end of this video?😀
