I landed in Courchevel last winter, with a Jodel D140 from l'Alpe d'Huez altiport, it was amazing ! I've seen some big twin turboprop aircrafts in Courchevel, and it used to have a direct flight to Paris flown by a Dash 8 with short landing and takeoff capabilities. Great video btw

Fantastic skill and professionalism, truly inspiring flying - we have similar 'mountain slope' runways here in Africa where you end up parking higher up than what your approach altitude was, not only special aviators but special airplanes make these landings possible.

For all those bad landing comments....Short field landings are meant to be planted on, not caressed. The point is to get down and stop, so a 3 pointer is acceptable here. Nice job!

I have had a pleasure flight from here and I can promise you it is as alarming as he says, especially the snow bank on the threshold. This is coming from a glider pilot who knows about steep angles or two on finals! Happy flying

Wow, that looks crazy. Check out that snow bank lip right before landing. Still, to me, a non-pilot, I think there is less margin for error in the Lukla airport. There is no chance of going around there, you're in a deep valley, fully committed and the runway is shorter with a big mountain at the end.

I know of a B200 that landed but.. he broke the wings so badly the engines touched the ground hell of a "Hard Landing" To recover the plane they had to saw off the wings remove the tail for the transport. After straightening the fuselage and a new wing from Raytheon the airplane flew again 2 years later!

He stuck it like he should for that field. You have to use your gravity and keep weight on wheels, - notice no bounce. Great video!

what if u didn't make it all the way up the hill on landing? Would the plane have enough power to pull it's self up or would the pilot have to put in the parkbrake and let someone tow him up?

I recomend not to go by automatic mode as the automatic mixture control compensation might not work in such a critical landing!( remember the old saying, if it can it will, just a matter of time) I would rather put my life in a standard procedure format in this case. for those who criticize, you probably do your flying on flight simulator and get smooth everytime without the fear of failure. you clearly know nothing of mountain flying and in any event any landing you walk away from with the aircraft intact is a good landing.

@KeyToSucceed15 жыл бұрын
Great flying but there is one serious and potential risk in the pilots procedures, the airfield is at 6,500 feet and on his short approach he takes the mixture to full rich! This can pontentially cause a power loss at that altitude, not a very good idea!! I think the Doc. needs to rethink this. All The Best Everyone , Chris from San Diego , ATP
