Takeover is really a Prodigy diss. The first two verses and the last verse were about Prodigy. Nas was only addressed in one verse. Prodigy started the beef with Jay on his own. He was mad when Jay said "New York's been soft ever since Snoop came through and crushed the buildings". Prodigy felt like Jay was disrespectful and corny for calling NY soft when he sat back and let Dogg Pound disrespect the city and not say or do anything while other niggas were standing up for New York. So many people don't even understand how this thing really played out. Nas launched the first Attack on The Message (people thought it was aimed at Pac or BIG). Jay even thought that because he gives Nas props for being one of the best Emcees the next year. Then Nas kept taking shots and by 2000 the Rocafella Crew had picked up on it and Bleek went after Nas first. Jay was busy with other dudes who were upset with His rise (Prodigy being one of them). Nas made a Song called H to the OMO, and that made Jay add Him to this Song which is primarily about Prodigy. Ether was the response to this and I never understood how people compare the 2 Songs. This has 1 line at the end of the 2nd Verse and the 3rd Verse dedicated to Nas. The rest is about Prodigy. Ether was all about Jay. Super Ugly is the proper response to Ether. Jay himself said that Super Ugly was an unfocused effort, but I think that was just because everyone already decided that Ether was the Death of Jay (definitely wasn't). Super Ugly took it to the next Level with how disrespectful it was and answered the long asked question of who did Jay get pregnant. Turns out it was Nas' Baby Mama who Jay and Allen Iverson were hitting behind His back. Nas continued to take shots as His Career was resurrected by Ether, so Jay bit back with Blueprint 2 which is a criminally underrated Dis Track. It is nowhere near as disrespectful as Super Ugly, but it was Jay taking His own personal Victory Lap by letting Nas know that He didn't hurt His Career at all and was Jay's way of putting it to Bed. We as the Fans are the ones who won in this one.
