Thank you for inspiring me to fit Super Lug tyres to my John Deere LT166. I'm going to ballast then tomorrow with 5 gallons of RV abducted in each tyre. I have mounted a 56lb iron weight above the frame rails beneath the seat. I hope that I'll have enough traction to pull 1,000lb loads of wood this autumn and winter!

If your going to use that garden tractor for logging you should get wheel weights and fill the tires with fluid. I use windshield washer fluid because it's cheap and I can do it myself but rimguard/beet juice is best. It makes a huge difference adding 250 lbs to the rear tires for traction and stability.

I've been on all kinds of tractor 300 hp plow pulling monsters, to 500lb garden tractors. My most fun sitting in a seat is on a 310-8 wheel horse. You see nothing more than 10-20 horse on a tractor and you don't expect much. My experience says otherwise. They have a lot in them. Throw some R1 AGs on it, add some liquid ballast, and you will be suprised what they can do.

You need to go to a junkyard and get a car hood and cut a hole in the center of the curved upright to run a chain or a cable through, put the end of the log on the hood to keep the log from digging to the ground , makes pulling the logs around much easier

That was a fun video Dave. I like those garden tractors. I have Wheel Horse tractors and the last 20 years i collected a dozen or more Gravely Walk behind tractors. Which i just recently got rid of. A coworker came and bought everything i had including a whole big trailer of implements to go with them. Like you, I'd be lost without my 4x4 tractor. They kinda spoil us. Have a great weekend buddy.
@OhioHillTopsHobbyFarm5 жыл бұрын
Dean Barr glad ya enjoyed it! Those walk behind tractors are neat, there is a lot of attachments for them that’s for sure! I have been looking for an old 2 wheel drive tractor to play with, I’d like a Farmall cub or an A. The 4x4 are great when ya have to work them but for the little jobs I’d like an older small tractor! Time will tell haha, take care buddy!

The Wheel Horse garden tractors had a limited slip axle to keep one tire or the other from spining. It really helps. Also ag tires and wheight would really help traction too. They have the power its geting it to the ground that's tuff.
@OhioHillTopsHobbyFarm4 жыл бұрын
That would be a big help! I had a lot of fun with this project, it is amazing the power it has but your right the limiting factor here was traction :) I plan on looking for a set of bar tread tires. Thanks for watching and commenting, take care!

Those garden tractor have their use! I use my Bolens HT23 for smaller work and hauling stuff around. But like you shown us, it can haul much more than tools! I am suprised how big the logs you were able to haul in a fairly steep place. Then it can go and turn in very tight places. Would the LS fit between the trees there?

Your right about that, I had never really gave it a shot at working like that and was glad I did. Made for a convenient way to haul firewood without tearing up my yard to much! And the LS wouldn’t be able to get in there yet but I do plan to make a road through there! Take care my friend!

Try taking the rear tires off and breaking down the bead on one side. Fill the tire with winter blend windshield washer fluid about 7 gallon air up the rest. This will add about 50 pounds per tire. I did this and you will not believe how it helps your traction.
