Thanks for this dude. I was so weirded out by a lack of screws on one side of the outlet. I always thought both black leads were hot, and didn't realize they simply complete a circuit.

Very well explained and visually great. In particular it was great to see the explanation with two whites and two blacks so that it was clear what to do. Have installed many many outlets, first time with the USB and was surprised that there were only 2 screws not 4. Your video clarified all of that. Two minor points: my Levithon does not clearly say USB C on the box but I assume that the USB C connector is what goes into the phone tablet etc. Secondly you mention that the Hot labeling on the back also has the word line... Since both wires go on the same brass screw I assume that it does not matter which black wire goes on the left or right side.... To be safe I will put the live power on the left side where I see the word line. Thank you very much.

4:03 This may or may not be right, but this is my theory. Backstab connections are meant to be one and done. This means that, you can only use them once. You can use a small screwdriver or something similar to stick in a release hole to depress the stab in terminal and release the wire, but since it's not springy, chances are, it'll permanently deform. If it does, the connection will be very loose (Not like backstabbing is already a loose connection to begin with). Thus, these are not supposed to be reused. So maybe they used that one once, then removed it, realized the wire was just falling out, and then used the screw terminal. But you should always use the screw terminals, or even better, ones that have a clamp that clamps the wire between the terminal and a metal plate and secures by tightening the terminal screw.

What about one that is also connected to a switch on the wall. I have 2 white, 2 black, 1 ground and 1 red wire

One black is hot and is an individual circuit. And the red is hot and an individual circuit. Potentially

I have been looking for information as to whether itbisnpossibke to install a usb outlet as a split switch (top plug controlled by wall switch and lower plug always hot). The new USB outlet I have has push in connectors only and I don't know if there is a way to break the connection between the hot side wire plug connectors. Your vids are very clear and informative, so I was hoping that you might know. Thanks!

This is an excellent step-by-step instructional video but just as i was feeling confident to go through with this, I encounter TWO copper (ground) wires wrapped around the green screw. First time I come across this. 🙀 Is it okay to just wrap both around the new USB outlet? 🫣. Thank you so much!
