It sounds like a simple song but when you actually start singing you realize how hard it is. Even Karen in her older age trying to sing this song does’t sing it the same. I’m sure you and your friends can sing. Probably just a little vocal coaching would of helped.

It's not a question of vocal range, stratospheric highs but rather the emotion that Karyn put into this song. She put her guts. That's the same as Toni Braxton with Unbreak my heart, Whitney Houston with The Greatest love of all. Any song can fit any voice but there is no emotion that beats the original singer.
