I think you just discouraged a lot of people from keeping bees , its a money pit to start with and now I have to have all kinds of insurance! Definitely something to think about

I was stung 3 times this year by my bees and I don't use smoke, or where protective equipment most of the time. But I was stung 10 times by wasps, and 12 times by native bees of some type. With that logic I should be able to sue the state. I put up do not trespass signs on my property.

I learned about honey bees after buying property in central U.P. that came with wild honey bees. They found me. We now save jars for camp for honey and to keep bees out of our drinks. Decided to build a swarm trap. Wanted to build a strong insulated hive for central U.P. Read Keeping bees with a smile. Decided I could build a Lazutin hive insulate it and add some unwelcome boards for bear. I have carpentry skills but time is always an issue. I have 15 kinds of wild berries, apple trees, cherries, service berries, basswood, and maples. Plus wild ramps, onions, and garlic. And several herb gardens by the hives. My 5 hives are now spread out over 10 acres and bumble bees. Need to build a sugar shack built to with stand a bear. Basswood blooms every other year. I keep bear spray on me at camp almost at all times. I was thinking about leasing my property out for hunting. I am bad about buying tools and loosing recites for my current business and services I offer. I have a forestry management plan for camp but should get a business plan around before starting a cottage/farm business. Thinking about getting organic certification and running trap lines after I move up there. But need an agri business first and a plan. Mrs. Wolverine won't let me buy any more property or build sugar shack till I finish the cottage at camp.

The largest Ins settlement was when Mt St Helen erupted and bees lost due to them gathering ash instead of pollen- loss of one or per bees total loss of a migratory beekeeper.

My 5 acre vineyard does not include a residence and it was difficult to find insurers to cover building/equipment/liability/etc. It might be worth asking if your 'off site' hives are insured.
