It looks foreboding to try to keep the bees, but I am thinking of trying.Thank you for the information. ❤

I admit it’s no easy job that’s for sure. It requires discipline, organisation and commitment. However it is very rewarding and to me therapeutic when observing them. The busiest times is from spring to early fall/autumn then winter it doesn’t really require much apart from making sure they have enough food to last the winter.

Top tip, put some green grass at the top of your smoker it helps to cool the smoke.

Thanks! We did it in the video

I would always recommend wired frames in the brood box.

That's a neat suit, where did you get that from, I have two different types but the one I have thats similar to yours the hood is always in danger of falling to my face if I tilt my head up and we all know what can happen if that happens.😳

Thanks! I know what you mean I had the same problem with my first bee suit. 😅 I’ll have to go and look in my emails so see where I ordered this bee suit from as I can’t remember off the top of my head. I’ll come back here when I’ve found it.

What type of bees are they? Where did you purchase them?
@FromCityToCountryLiving8 ай бұрын
We believe these are buckfast bees. We caught them in a swarm so these bees were free.
@Tj-ot4jp8 ай бұрын
The reason they are laden with honey is because they have nowhere else to store to it so they fill up the brood chamber, which means the queen has nowhere to lay which means the swarm impulse is triggered.
@Tj-ot4jp8 ай бұрын
Yeah that middle hive so needs a super or two to give them more space, they definitely need more space your in danger of them swarming witch will result in a smaller honey crop or none at all (13.47 into the vid)
@Tj-ot4jp8 ай бұрын
Also the cells you are removing are swarm cells not supercedure cells which means you have a perfectly good queen in there.
@FromCityToCountryLiving8 ай бұрын
I searched high and low however there were no freshly laid eggs in that hive or any uncapped brood which led me to believe that there was no queen. They accepted the new queen I gave them and she’s in one of the hives that made it through the winter.

Can you use weed to smoke them?
@epuremarianlaurentiu8588 ай бұрын
Oh good, give them space and work fom 5 to 10 frame , from 10 to 20 frame. Only the hive you work on smokes, not all of you. Try to learnlearn from a local beekeeper. iI can be seen that you are a beginner and you still have a lot to learn.

All beekeepers are ever learning never claimed to have years and years of experience under my belt. Only sharing what I’ve learnt as I go. They got the space and are thriving 2024. This video was recorded last June 2023 in the UK.

It may not be queenless, the box has no space, and also the bees natural impulse is to swarm.

I thought hives ought to be under shade......
@FromCityToCountryLiving8 күн бұрын
They were in the shade part of the day. Some parts of they day as the sun moves across the sky, they are in the sun.

Can't help feeling you've removed the best cells, I hope not.
@FromCityToCountryLiving8 ай бұрын
I had a queen that they accepted. She lays very well and has survived the winter to 2024 🎉 🙏🏽
