Beekeeping- Queens in Snelgrove, Marking Queens, and Queen Castle May 2018

In this video, I discuss what to look for after you snelgrove your hive. I happened to place two queen cells into the snelgroved top box when the setup was done. I talk about marking your queen cell frames with tacks (easy to see and remove later), marking the queen with paint dot, making a nuc with the queen in the snelgrove setup, and an explanation on design and use of my queen mating castle.

Sorry about that. The only decent camera I had was a Go Pro Hero 4 with an external microphone. I just purchased a Sony Handicam to try and make videos but reduce those issues with the hum from the Microphones. Hopefully it will do me justice for a while. Thanks for your comment. I am not a tv network, just a beekeeper with ideas and a vision. Hopefully my content gets better and all my subscribers appreciate what I put out.

Hello, I am new to your channel, Very cool seeing your Queen castles are making queens for you! I watched a couple of your videos and maybe it's just my ears but in your last few vids, there is a low hum that kinds of hurts my ears. Just thought I would mention it, again maybe it's just me, I'm using headphones. Keep up the good work!

Is this method used to merge two strong hives? then remove one of his Queens, to get more honey?

Initially it is to modify a strong colony during the nectar flow to hopefully prevent it from swarming and still bring in a honey harvest. The bonus is that you create a new queen from that hives genetics and didn't have to graft or buy one. You can then make a split off this top colony and then reintroduce the bees together to maintain a strong colony. If the queen in the bottom is a heavy layer, you may have to snelgrove this hive more than once during swarm season.

Great video. Interested in the queen castle. What food resources do you have on the frame to start?

You pull frames from hive. They should have at least some pollen and honey on frames. I moved away from the queen castle and utilized stand alone 2 frame hives. I have. videos on those too.
