Loving this series. I finally got to split some of mine this weekend.

Thanks Rooster! It’s a tad early for us, but I think these will work out fine. If not the next round will be boomers. Glad to hear you are having some nice bee weather.

Another good one Craig. You make it look so easy. That's all that experience you have showing up. Too cold here for splits yet. 40°s days and 20°s or 30°at night. We had a couple of warm days this weekend so I got some real quick inspections in but the forecast is saying cold for the next 2 or 3 weeks. There be any drones old enough either. Thank you for going to the trouble to make these videos cause I know it is a lot of trouble and work.

It won’t be long and you will be splitting also. It’s definitely a lot of extra work, but the benefits are worth it. We should all share our experiences. This serie plus our other 100 or so colonies definitely keep us busy. Thank you for watching.

I’m glad this video series is getting views. Must be inconvenient to put these videos together.

It’s a little challenging to do this series and work our other 100 or so colonies, but we felt it was worth it to help others and show how we make up numbers and grow. We appreciate you tuning in.

I like using double nuc boxes for making nucs when its still cold at night, the two small nucs can support each other with heat by clustering against the center divider. I like to put my queen cells between the ist and second frame from the divider.

That’s a great way of doing it. We just don’t have the equipment. I would like to build one and try it someday though. Thanks for watching.

Craig, on the first split you the virgin, I noticed you don't have an entrance reducer in. I wonder if they are big enough to protect themselves and there would be less drafty if the weather cools. Just a thought??

It would be a great idea to put one on. I just did t think about it. We will put one on. Thank you 🙏

I think you are on the up hill side just so that queen comes back mated . So I think you have it going on but the weather is calling for rain an some cooler weather ahead of us 🤞🤞🤞. Thanks

Yes! Fingers crossed! We know it’s a little early, but we are trying to meet our goal of 32 for the series. We have not split any of our other bees and are just now equalizing. That’s why we dropped new grafts today. Hopefully it will work out. Thanks for watching

I have had issues with temp swings from summer to winter chilling cells in splits or the bees starve in nuc boxes. Anticipating several virgins to start laying.

Thanks, Craig. I put together a 5 frame cell starter/finisher yesterday and hope to graft later in the week. To my last question about the flow, I've got alot of nectar in the hives and brood in my mediums. Do you think it's time to separate them with an excluder so the brood can clear out?
@thesidelinebeekeeper-craig6924 Жыл бұрын
Hey Hope! Is your goal to make honey and use the excluder to keep the queen from laying in the upper box? If so it’s fine, but you will want to keep an eye out for queen cells and swarm signs. You may even need to split them later. Or are you wanting to us it for queen rearing?
@hopesadler4000 Жыл бұрын
@thesidelinebeekeeper-craig6924 Yes, I want to use it for honey. I'll keep an eye on the starter. When I'm done with it, I plan to give it a cell. Thanks for your input.

After making a split with 2 frames of brood, a frame of food, and a queen cell, how long will it take before being able to split the new split again with 2 frames of brood?
@thesidelinebeekeeper-craig6924 Жыл бұрын
Totally dependent on climate, flows and the bees themselves! We shoot for a month or so, but will depend on queen coming back mated and the. It takes a little time for her to begin laying.
