That was quit the gun back in the 80"s, I couldn't afford one. Now that I can, I just can't find one. Thanks for reviewing it. It took me back to a time where I dreamed of getting one.

Hello My friend, I know exactly what you mean and how you feel. I yearned for a Weihrauch HW80 from being twelve years old. I hadn't a hope. It wasn't my place to have one. I loved to make things as a youngster. I wasn't allowed tools, either. Children should be seen and not heard was what my father stood by. I eventually got tools, and my HW80 came when I was forty-eight. My HW80 came with a most miserable, lack lustre gun stock you could imagine. It's totally not worthy of the iconic action it carried. So, after much thought and consideration, I made my own laminated stock in Walnut and Ash, with hand tools. My aim was to make Mr Weihrauch proud and show what could be made at home with passion and a will. It is finished in linseed oil to allow the wood to breathe and not sweat. I sent pictures of it to Mr Weihrauch, and not long after Weihrauch altered their stock design and was very much like mine. While I worked on my stock, I sent the action to a top airgun tuner who worked his magic. My HW 80 is so, so special to me now and unique. I know exactly what you mean, my friend. It isn't nice doing without something when there's no need. Best wishes, Ian.

Great video - I have an HW90 in .25 flavour - an excellent rifle. The HW Elite trigger required a bit of 'tweeking' when I first got it but its a good as gold now. I think the stock you have is one supplied by Custom Stocks of Sheffield (UK) - keep up the great work. 😉

Back time weihrauch contact theoben for a gasram for there airgun line. They made a gasram for them. And the rifle called TB90. Very nice stock looks like yours.

I know I say this often when you show your guns, but that is one lovely rifle! I wanted a Theoben Imperator when I was a young man in the 80s and 90s, still never had one. The target panic you talk about is just rushing the shot. It is solved by using the basics - Look at the sight/s (not the target) and be present where you actually are, not at the target or in the future. Most of us know this, and most of us struggle with it. It's the skill that makes a good shot! And it's honed in competition under pressure. Practice alone will only make a basic rough edge. Shooting as a skill is in practice usually done under some kind of pressure, either in combat or in the hunting field. Plinking cans does not teach you these skills.

Absolutely, my friend. Having others watching is enough for me to have a hard time. It is indeed a discipline. Thanks as always, my friend.

That is a nice looking air rifle! I like the long and lean look. Looks like it's wearing a custom steel muzzlebrake, that finishes off that custom gun look. That would be terror in the squirrel woods, for sure! Scott

One of my favorite airguns. People love to pile criticism on them , most of which is unwarranted . From a personal point of view I do prefer the trigger to the record unit , I find it suits my old fingers better. From a collectors point of view there are a couple of rarish stocked versions to look out for. Speaking of which whilst I am no expert on stocks that one puts me in mind of Ivan Hancocks work. Possibly Custom Stock of Sheffield a little like the Webley Tomahawk stock but it could have been produced by anyone. I am currently down to two HW 90's at present had quite a number of them over the years, they are as you so rightly say " just a real pleasure to shoot" . You need to get yourself an Air Arms pro Elite another pleasurable gun to shoot, better than the 80 by quite a margin but prices are high.

Nice video, I am going to go out on a limb and say you recorded that a few months ago, we have snow on ground here in Maine, it’s likely you do too. That is a gorgeous rifle, I don’t know much about gas vs springers, I think all the break barrels or under or side levers are all spring piston. A friend of mine that’s way more experienced than I, shys away from gas ramp because of reliability long term, but if I find the right one, I’ll try one sometime. Thanks for sharing!
@razor196219 күн бұрын
Gas rams are notorious for bleeding pressure over time. However, Theoben rams are pretty darned reliable. Thanks for watching, my friend.
@yannisbossis715325 күн бұрын
The gas ram is probably filled to ~18 bar in your air rifle. These gas rams can be filled up to 26 bar. It is not recommended though because the cocking effort will be substantial and the increase in power is minimal above a certain level. You can fill the gas ram up to 20 bar or so and have a 21-22 fpe gun and still very accurate. People have been experimenting with custom piston seals and report powers close to 27-28 fpe. I would also try the JSB hades (15.89 grain) in your air rifle.

Great video as always Kevin. In the UK i think your RX would have been called a Theoben HW90 TB. I have an HW 90 It feels a bit better quality than my other Weihrauch rifles. Thanks for showing your RX2. Take care.
@razor196219 күн бұрын
You are indeed correct. The RX2 is simply a Beeman branded HW90. Thanks as always, Paul.

That wood looks awsome, the adjustable butpad looks a bit bulky. Overall a very nice find. I had a HW90 but found them harder to cock (even with that long barrel) than my HW80, so the 90 was sold and the 80 stayed.

No idea on the British gas ram. I'm not certain, but HW was using Theoben rams in the HW90. Perhaps they still do. You may be able to obtain one through a Weihrauch dealer.

Is that a Rowan Engineering adjustable butt plate?
@razor196219 күн бұрын
I cannot confirm one way or the other as to who makes that buttplate. It was on the rifle when I acquired it. I haven't even made any adjustments to it. It seems to be set up just fine for the way that I shoot. Thanks as always, Jack.
@palmer397724 күн бұрын
I've never shot a gas ram but you can hear the difference compared to a spring, is the recoil the same as a spring?
@razor196219 күн бұрын
The recoil is very similar. However, there's absolutely zero vibration and although I haven't made any attempt to confirm my suspicion, I swear that the lock time is faster.
