I was a trainer in the Army. I was a recovery specialist and taught people how to self recover and recover others. It was difficult to teach some people the concept of snatch blocks and leverage. Some people came to it easier. I set up a training exhibition where I find the smallest guy in the group and show everyone how he could move a 5 ton wrecker by hand by himself. That got people interested in what I was trying to teach them. I have a 3500 lb harbor freight winch mounted on my 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee and have amazed people at what I could move with just the power of that little wench. Just takes gear, math and a little time. Good job with your effort. Excellent proof of concepts.

I have an M37 winch truck. I carry 6" Warn pulley blocks and various and sundry items to self recover. I use every bit of mechanical advantage I can get hold of. Never broke a shearpin or stalled the winch. Never overload my gear.

@Jelly73 Nope , I am a bit older than that. I was in South Carolina and was instructing people on Army Equipment. I used to train people on the Hemmt Wrecker when it first came out. We also trained people with 2.5 and 5 ton vehicles and HummV s. We still had a jeep or 2 but they were basically gone . This would have been in the late 80's and mid 90's.

I've leaned a LOT from watching him. He's a very "technical thinker" with very clever winching methods/ techniques. Which allow his lightweight jeep renegade to pull out things I didn't think possible! He's like the elite special forces when it comes to "basic" offroad recovery! My uncle said he could not believe that got stuck on its own. I must have quit running and was abandoned. He said he has seen them go through some serious nasty terrain way worse than what we saw there. That was some awesome strategy rescuing that old beast.

The reason the other guys do the yanking is because it’s cooler and get more views We have done more complex jobs with a baby jeep then anyone I’ve seen on the internet but our videos are slow controlled winching which is boring to most people They wanna see 7000 rpm’s tires spinning yanking and stuff flying

Gentleman it is not a dick measuring contest. Use the right tools and techniques for the task at hand. The recovery ropes are outstanding tools. Sometimes you just got to winch, that is all there is to it.

1st time watcher from 3 hrs south of you, I like how you think, and problem solving , I will subscribe and keep watching. Just goes to show you , no matter how big and bad you think your truck is , you can always get stuck. I used to own a 1 1/4 jeep kaiser , just a big military pickup, and it's weak spot was the twist , if you got diagonal tires on humps you were digging or winching .

Good job there demonstrating proper rigging for recovery. The Army had a acronym when doing a recovery. Back in 80s recovery of wheeled and tracked vehicles was required skill as 11B for S.Q.T. I got to use them many times with M35a2 and Humvee's. To many people don't use equipment correctly. Snatch block doubles winch capability minus 10% loss in each sheave due to friction loss. This gives a safety factor. Nice to see a recovery slide ruler used for planning.👍 First time watching your channel and now a new sub. Great getting to see people doing the right way, not snatching to point of breaking #### "like many down in your neck of woods do" too.

Yes, we try to do it with math and correct rigging Which make for slow boring pulls but we want everything safe and everyone to go home Too many injuries due to full sends and no control with a rope and skinny pedal

When I drove a concrete truck I told several contractors where I would get stuck or have trouble getting through. Had one guy say I would have no problem because a track dozer had packed it down. Well I made it about two feet past where I said it would go. He had to use a Bob cat to unload my truck.

I found your channel a while after I started doing this kind of recovery work across the country from you and it’s a huge relief to find someone doing rigging like this and also being serious about the safety factors of their gear. Thanks for everything you share! Our roads all turn to deep mud seasonally and a lot of my work also requires multiple snatch blocks and lots and lots of extensions. What size winch rope are you running? Some of your extensions looked pretty beefy and I was curious.

We run the warn Zeon 10-s now with their spydura 3/8-100’ cable We have a few 3/8 extension But when it come to the bigger stuff stuff we swap all the 7/16 soft shackles out to 1/2 ones And use 1/2 extensions Just a little piece of mind with the bigger stuff So then the week point will be our winch line on the winch So we know if there is a failure where it should happen

I had a very similar 5 ton 6x6 equipped with a HIAB when I was in the Canadian military in Germany. We used the 5 Ton for hauling artillery ammo. They're good reliable trucks in the day...late 70s mid 80s. We had the Cummings diesel equipped, unfortunately these trucks bogged down in the front end due to the weight if not careful.
