Coaches Jake and Lachlan (Ex-coach and swimmer) challenge you to do the Beep Test. What better time to do the beep test than during a global pandemic!
The beep test is something we all love to hate, bringing back fond/traumatic memories of PE classes at school. While no one enjoys doing it, it's a great way to test your aerobic fitness and is used by athletes all over the world, and even in the military!
Swimmers, challenge your parents or siblings to do it with you, and parents challenge your children and (try) beat them. Send in your results to your coaches on TeamApp! The actual result doesn't matter, you guys aren't training to be elite runners, it's just a challenge.
For any lucky souls that have never had to do the beep test, here is how it works:
The rules are pretty straight forward, you run between two markers that are 20 metres apart. There are 21 levels with each level having a number of shuttles. In order to successfully complete a shuttle, you are required to reach the end before the sound of the next beep.
Things to note:
• Only one foot has to touch the line
• Each level lasts for about 1 minute
• With each new level the speed increases by 0.5 km/h
• Each new shuttle is indicated by a single beep
• Each new level is indicated by 3 successive beeps or a ‘triple beep’
What you’ll need:
• Two water bottles (to use as markers)
• A Tape Measure (to measure out 20m)(we had a 10m tape measure so we marked 10m and measured another 10m from that point)
• A phone and speaker - type “The beep test” in either Spotify or Apple Music and it will come up.
Good Luck!
