I like the skinny glasses trend because they subvert that "nerdy" association into something cool, sexy and intentional, rather than what your parents made you wear as a tween. It makes sense that they are making a comeback because they have been so out of style for so long that people looking for a new way to be unique and expressive can reach for nostalgic items like these and change the narrative around them into something current!

This is funny because that's how we felt about the big glasses when they started to come in ten years ago. The large glasses were the sexy nerd. Then style comes around and now the small glasses are sexy again.

I'm surprised that there aren't more varied examples of the red tights outfit, I never noticed how similar (but cute) most of the looks really are. I used to have a burgundy pair of tights that I would usually pair with other jewel tones, especially navy blue or green. I kinda wanna see some red tights paired with other primary colors! your reasoning about denim maxis makes me realize part of why i like a lot of "modest" fashion: I wasn't forced to wear it growing up😬it might be a different story otherwise

As a former dorky girl with very bad vision, the skinny glasses trend confused me as well. However, I have come to love it as a form of reclamation and overcoming the pain of fearing what is considered, "cringe." It's also reminscent of like, "2001 rom-com heroine has just been hired into her first big-city role..." Also, those sneakers are way cuter than other sneakers imo, they look more feminine, low-key, put-together, and serious than the other options, which feel clunkier/less mature (however, the extra weight they provide matches the preferences you alluded to earlier in the vid).

I was a denim skirt hater for a long time, but because I found one that suited my very VERY specific taste, I got it and I love it. It's a gored flared skirt with panels and it's very long, a silhouette that feels very Edwardian to me. It's also in a very lightly washed black denim so it's not obvious that it's denim. It's a shape I love in a practical fabrication and the structure of the denim means it holds its shape nicely even without a petticoat (searching for a suitable vintage petticoat to wear underneath it though for the vibes) and it's perfect for me. It took me finding that one specific skirt out of dozens of other denim maxis I hated to be like "okay yeah maybe this could work."

I have my signature sneakers and they’re good buds. A good way of recreating the red tights look would be with another color tights you already have. Start a new trend with your existing purple tights that you own while saving your money and not being embarrassed next year when red tights are “so 2023!”

I think it's something about how those elements would be considered weird and would definitely get you bullied as a kid/teen. 12:00 As far as thin glasses, I am in a similar boat to you, it screams early 2000's to me, and just seeing the frame in your vision at all times. I recently picked up two pairs of glasses, and they are both very similar. But what was important to me, was comfort, no metal digging in anywhere, and how it fit my eye shape and eye brows. I also have a square face, so I can't have tiny frames width wise, or it looks like an old grandpa with those tiny two circle nose glasses haha. So practically, and fashionably, I'm out. But hey, if you get new glasses every three months, it doesn't hurt to have one of every shape, size and colour for your wardrobe! I just get new ones every 2-5 years... so I focus on what looks good on me... and a little detail ;) I have one black/blue with a silver chain, and one brown/black with a gold chain link and swarovski crystals. So I can match my warm tone and cool tone outfits, AND jewellery with my glasses!

I'm a big fan of vintage fashion, especially the 1930s-1960s period, and I try to incorporate elements from those eras into my wardrobe. High rise is essential for that vibe, low rise kills it. 3. Every time I see a low rise outfit on an influencer I think to myself I'd like it much better if it was high rise. Or if there's a video of the same outfit but styled with high-waisted vs. low-waisted bottoms, I always like the former better. 4. It's just uncomfy. I don't want to have to bend over and have my butt crack showing, that sounds like a nightmare!

I have found myself needing a mid-rise jean. High-rise is too uncomfortable when sitting and low-rise is a HELL NO! I already lived through that, I'll not going back.
@rottenghost11 ай бұрын
What I’ve noticed tho is that while in the 2000s when I grew up low rise really was a pant starting barely above the crotch area while nowadays people wear either mid rise and call it low waist or wear super baggy pants Which would also fit higher if worn properly. Just a funny thing I noticed

When low rise went out of style an entire 2 generations of women gave a HUGE ten thousand sighs of relief and we were so grateful for the daughters we haven’t had yet they they wouldn’t even have to wear low rise because it was THAT HORRIBLE and now all these teeny boppers have brought it back it’s literally a triple fold faint and almost die while laughing cringing about to puke moment WHO ever looked good in that I can only think of one actress from the 2000s and she ended up being a drug addict 😂😂😂

your anti-hauls help me so much!!! i really try to focus on only buying pieces that i know i'll rewear over n over again. i like these anti hauls cos we can appreciate trends without buying them, and we dont have to worry about our closets piling up
@moira_y Жыл бұрын
I love this. For the past ten or so years, I have really been trying to focus on only buying clothing that will be my FAVORITE clothing. I have also never been a polka dot lover. Therefore, it is very unlikely that my FAVORITE skirt ever of all time will have polka dots. So even if I see a skirt with a shape and style i like, if it’s polka dots, I don’t get it. This mindset has really reduced the amount of churn my wardrobe sees. I buy way less, and also give away way less. When I’m buying new clothes it’s because something got worn out or stained.

I'm not a fashionable person, nor have I given much thought to fashion. YET i totally enjoyed this and feel like the style values are in line with my own. Ive never watched a fashion influencer but Im hooked.

personally I think I like the denim maxi skirt, mostly because it’s like…a dressier jean??? or an alternative to jeans, I can basically just take an jeans outfit that I like and switch the jeans out for the skirt, which is fun! but also I absolutely get what you’re saying about how some of them look like weird pants 😭 I thought I was the only one who couldn’t unsee the pant leg silhouette LMAO. luckily mine is solid denim so it doesn’t look like pant legs HAHAHA

I used to think the exact same way about sneakers and I had never been a sneaker girl either (I'm not so much a sneaker person now either honestly) but my lifestyle has changed so much the last couple of years that I started to realize I needed truly comfortable shoes that let me walk everywhere since I don't own a car and need to be using public transport all the time. I was also never a stiletto or high heel person, but I feel like even 2-3 inch block heels were not cutting it for my lifestyle anymore, so I stick to medium chunky soles but with minor foot elevation these days, and honestly I can now see the appeal of sneakers. I'm still far from being a sneakerhead and I don't really go with the sneakers that are trendy, or at least I haven't done so because they are trendy, rather I just get the ones that I like and fit my style and lifestyle, but I think there's a case to be made for comfort when it comes to the sneaker trend.

Fully agree with you on all of these trends! The ballet flats and denim skirts just remind me too much of the things my mom forced me to wear as a forced-religious child growing up and i cant get behind them lol

The glasses thing is so funny because ten years before 2007 the large chunky plastic glasses were The Dorky Nerd in your class

i feel the same way about the glasses i feel like if you even slightly remove them from the context of today's trends nobody can pull them off 😭 and ballet flats are cute but mary janes kinda give the same effect + theyre a bit more timeless

i love these videos because i have felt like this for Years, but this season i feel so represented by what's in style! i've been wearing bows, colorful tights, mixing corporate and fantasy for the last 7 years or so, so i feel like i'll just stay in fw23 style forever ahahaha

As a permanent glasses wearer, I’d love to wear rounder frames but I have a really round face and big glasses make my face look even rounder which doesn’t make me feel great. Maybe one day I’ll find a bigger pair that looks cute on me!

To me, the skinny glasses have a smart, mysterious, powerful vibe to it which is probably connected to the character bayonetta who people have started naming the glasses after

I have the red tights, have had the same pair for at least 10 years, and I still wear them in autumn and winter. That said, I wear tights and pantyhose almost every day. I usually wear the red ones with a neutral skirt and a red blouse/jumper and shoes that match the skirt. I like matchy matchy shoes, belt, bag, and hat combos. Even better when my skirt and coat go with them too. Our styles couldn’t differ anymore if they tried, but I enjoy watching your videos very much. And I like that you put examples of all sizes and shapes. Very refreshing. Especially because you don’t make a production out of it.

A lot of these trends remind me of trends that were circulating around 2017/18. Polka dots, off the shoulder tops, and red were things I was obsessed with those years

Especially in winter, i really don't like people all wear neutral and black. I mean the weather is bad already, those colors just make it feel depressing

The denim skirt with an off shoulder too and ballet flats with the skinny glasses would be a good fit for the “styling trends I hate” thing. Add a blazer and the red leggings underneath and bam, most of these trends you dislike in one.

Great point about being mindful about what YOU like when picking out a sneaker. I like the style of Converse One Stars because they have that vintage look, look good in fun colors (I have mustard ones), and have that cute star cutout on the side

Also, agree about the tiny glasses- I had those as a nerdy kid and ho boy! Not a good look. Aesthetically I don’t like them because they make your eyes look smaller, and your face wider which is something I find unflattering. When “hipster” glasses came into style it was a revelation bcs you could actually see your eyes while wearing glasses!
@tansygoblin8601 Жыл бұрын
When it comes to sneakers, i'm a converse girlie till i die. They may not be currently trendy, but they're still a classic shoe in my opinion. Regarding the red tights, I just find it strange that it's specifically red tights that are trending when any color of tights could be styled with the same neutral outfit. I happen to already have a lot of different colored tights (including red) because i like doing 1960s mod looks sometimes, so i might give this trend a go just because but i wouldn't go out of my way to buy them if i didn't already have them.

Love all these videos! Looking for the trends of our soul rather than the trends! I have to say though I love polka dots! Totally agree about the denim skirts!! No matter how cute the outfit is, a long denim or khaki skirt will never look like fashion to me, it will only ever look like "my religious denomination requires me to Be Modest and cover my legs up". 🙃🙃🙃 I'm surprised that tights are in fashion for similar reasons? In my childhood tights were churchwear, my Grandma put me in them with a cute dress for church and that was the only time I wore them. I remember trying to wear tights to school bc I wanted to wear a skirt and it was cold! and the tights got made fun of. 🙃

For me, the dorky middle school look is fun, and I think some of that style is very creative and unique. I also just have lenses the thickness of my arm, so the smaller frames I have, the better.

tbh i love the sambas sneakers and have wanted to thrift them for a long time. the same year that i finally got myself a pair they started trending - i was so mad lol! my love for these shoes stemmed from the fact that my grandfather used to wear them all the time and i always adored how absolutely uncool they were. i wanted to emulate my grandpa's style, and suddenly they're supposed to make me trendy? so to answer your question - i love these shoes, ive already worn them to death, but to me they are very much associated with central and eastern europe senior citizens - and thats why i love them lol.
