Күн бұрын

Visiting Kampung Baru's Ramadan Bazaar in Kuala Lumpur was completely unexpected as we only intended to join the free walking tour!
HOWEVER what an AMAZING discovery!
Again we completely indulged in some of the best Ramadan food in KL
Tepung Pelita
Curry Puffs
Roti Goreng
Kuih Peneram
Kuih Puteri Ayu
Murtabak
Air Balang
Visting Malaysia during Ramadan is ESSENTIAL! Which Bazaar is next? AND what food do we still need to try?

Just fyi, daging = meat in general. Beef is daging lembu ... lembu = cow, so beef = cow's meat. But in Malaysia, in general, when someone says daging, it means beef... lamb/mutton will be daging kambing, where kambing means goat...

What i like the most about this video is you guys learned really fast and your pronunciation also great. Like it when you say ‘kuih tepung pelita’ 😂. You’re not just walk around and feel the good environment but you guys learned while travelling. Great ! Feeling appreciated to watch outsiders enjoyed their moments in our beloved country. Thumbs up !

Thanks for such a lovely comment. As we are in Malaysia for so long, it would have been rude not to have learnt about the culture here. Plus we love learning new things everyday. We are glad that this comes through on the camera.

Beer For Breakfast I don't celebrate aidilfitri in Kuala Lumpur. If not I would love to have you both celebrating aidilfitri with me and family. Hopefully some Malaysians here get to be your host. But you can also go to our Prime Minister's open house on the first day of Aidilfitri. It's usually held every year and everyone is welcome. Just a suggestion, if you wanna buy clothes (baju raya), go to Jalan TAR (near LRT station Masjid Jamek). On Thursday night they will usually have massive sale. 😬

Wow I really envy you guys being there at this time of the year. The best time for exploring in all the bazaars. Another tradition which I miss when I was living there is that after the hair raya (Eid-ul - fitr) the Malaysians celebrate the whole month by having what is called 'open house' where friends, neighbours are all invited to homes to enjoy food. In Putrajay the Prime minister as well as the deputy prime minister will Invite the public to their Palace for a variety of food & drinks. The Malaysians are truly very generous & sincere in nature. I love them

cat tellatubbies - 1. Eid is not just Melayu celebration, it is celebrated by Muslims all over the world! And Melayu are not the only Muslims in Malaysia, there are other races who are Muslims in Malaysia, like Chinese, Indians, Arab and many many more. 2. The only similarity between Eid al Fitr and Christmas is they are both religious celebration and holiday. That's it. Even different Muslim majority countries around the world celebrate Eid differently ( in exception of Eid Takbir and Eid morning prayer). The Saudi celebrate Eid differently than the Turkish which celebrate differently than the Iranians which celebrate Eid differently the Malaysians. Unlike Christmas where almost everywhere in the world celebrate it uniformly (due to tv and films influence), Eid Al Fitr is normally celebrated together with the culture where you live in.

Another interesting thing to do is to sign up for one of those Malay cooking classes on Airbnb 😁 you’ll get to cook Malay dishes and enjoy the meal (and time) with you Malay hosts. Also check out pasar tani (farmer’s market) - after eid. You will find amazing Malay food and traditional Malay produce there.

Actually you should try Rendang which is one of the traditional and important cuisine during hari raya celebration. It delicious and more fragrance than curry because of the ingredient such as turmeric leaves inside it. Love both of you. 😊

The last part 🐈 really makes my day 😂 Hope you girls make a video of Hari Raya (Eid) which literally means Celebration Day. Not long from now. I'm sure you girls will enjoy Malay hospitality during Raya. Entertaining videos as always! Keep it coming 😊 In the mean time, do search for bubur lambuk. It is a kind of porridge multitude of flavors. Usually it is given for free by the mosques. Ask around ;)

You guys should go to Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman..most of the Malaysian call it 'Jalan Tar'..it is a 24 hour bazaar (better go during the night because it will be pack with people) for the muslim to get some preparation such as cookies, traditional cloth and other things during Hari Raya...it would be great if you be there...anyway..I live very near to Connaught though..

Can you try go to Bazar Ramadan Seksyen 1, Wangsa Maju? It is a really long bazar and you can get variety of foods there. I’m really sure you will satisfied with that bazar. If you go there, you can try Ikan Bakar (grilled fish) . It is the best seller.
