I summitted Whitney last summer in a day from Whitney Portal. 22 long miles but the feeling of attaining the summit was indescribable. Congrats and yeah that descent down into Whitney Portal takes FOREVER!

Hi Maddie, I hope you've been well! I really enjoyed this production. Well done on smashing the John Muir Trail. As a physio, I used Leukotape a lot with my patients and have found it's awesome for blisters and is generally waterproof. I can see you enjoyed the benefits of the tape on Day 17! Anyway, my apologies I’ve been MIA this year. We’ve had a very busy year travelling abroad. But, we’ve returned home now and so, I’ll have a lot more time to follow your channel. Glad to see that you had a full moon for Whitney. When I hiked the JMT in 2015, I really enjoyed that ethereal black and white landscape of hiking by moon light. I'm looking forward to your post hike video(s) to see what you learned. I know that I learned a lot from my early hikes (including the JMT, which was my 3rd and still best backpacking trip), and I think that I have learned something on every backpacking trip since. It's the hard times that teach us lessons if we are open to learning.

OMG! We were at Guitar Lake on the same day. When you panned the camera around I saw our tents. And we had that beautiful moon too. But we didn’t try to make it up for sunrise. Congratulations!!!

Awesome series Maddie, just binge watched the whole thing! Love that you don't sugar coat how hard the trail is, but seems like you had a positive, if challenging experience overall. I'm 36 and it's on my bucket list to complete before I'm 40. Plan is to "warm up" with the Wonderland Trail next year and then the JMT/Nüümü Poyo in 2026. Taken a lot of inspiration and advice from these videos. Thanks for taking the time and effort to make them!

I'm so glad you got some Leukotape!!! I've been using for several years on trips/travel .... it's weird, even shoes you have broken in and feel comfortable with will BETRAY you sometimes on a trip where you may do walking of a different sort than what you're used to!!! LOL. Anyway, that Leukotape is great stuff ... I have several rolls of it and keep some in my suitcase all the time!!! Congratulations on your accomplishments!!! You did such a great job!!! Boy .... they REALLY need to have some beers up there on Mt. Whitney to toast your victory!!! C'mon, State of California ... put some of those good IPAs (or some Napa wine!) up there for the climbers!!!! Do it while you can!!! My husband and his brother just bagged their 100 mile backpack trip through the high Sierras 3 days in .... the altitude, the temperatures, the weight of their packs, the air quality from fires and their ages (both in their 60s) created the perfect storm and they just weren't having any fun! I'm proud of them that they decided not to slog along and put their health in danger. My hubs hasn't really backpacked in over a year and he DID train, but I think he needs to do some smaller trips and ease into it more.
