Apparently Mike wrote the original demo for this song. He did the original vocals, but once they brought Emily on, they reworked it and it sounds great.

When I'm right, Mike wrote the song, like the emptiness machine, a while ago. And after Emily joined they experimented with who would sings the song. And in the end they decided that it would be the best that Emily sings the song alone.

There is no such alternative ending, since the accident Emily has been a ghost, the clue is given by the fact that the paramedics pass by her without attending to her or noticing her, it is because she is not there but in the car.

you have the wrong interpretation Emily is the one that died and she is a ghost in this video.

It’s not alternate ending…. Emily died, she’s the ghost, flashbacks are from her, nobody is interacting with her when paramedics arrive on scene. She’s dead, and the partner is the one who lives

Song is apparently an intro to the next song on the album - which is (according to the band) the heaviest song on the record, Casualty. Song reminds me of Friendly Fire, fighting with your loved ones, excited to see where it goes when it’s next to Casualty… if you listen to the album version Mike talks at the end, something like “we got it… put on your screaming pants”

In the album version Mike comes in telling Emily to “put your screaming pants on”. I can’t wait to hear that one.

This was such a good song to showcase her vocals. I definitely agree with you guys about how the order of releasing these songs was really smart on their part. Since y’all are checking out a bit more rock, I’d love to see your reaction to “Words Darker Than Their Wings” by Alter Bridge live at the Royal Albert Hall. It’s a pretty incredible performance I think you guys will really enjoy.

Honestly, this is not on some norm away from linkin park. It's on par with albums like minutes to midnight, a thousand suns, and one more light. I completely expected a pop bob from them with Emily.

I don't think you are off-base saying you hear some Stevie Nicks in her voice. Her speaking voice has some of the same qualities as Stevie. You should check out one of her Dead Sara songs titled "Something Good". Also, the name Dead Sara derives from a misheard lyric in Fleetwood Mac's song Sara. So yes, I'd say there's some Stevie Nicks influence there - and no bad thing.
