Wilhelm Kempff (25 November 1895 - 23 May 1991) was a German pianist and composer. Although his repertoire included Bach, Mozart, Chopin, Schumann, Liszt and Brahms, Kempff was particularly well known for his interpretations of the music of Ludwig van Beethoven and Franz Schubert, recording the complete sonatas of both composers. He is considered to have been one of the chief exponents of the Germanic tradition during the 20th century and one of the greatest pianists of all time. #beethoven #piano #classicalmusic #pianosonata #wilhelmkempff #classicalmusic #piano

My mom used to play this song on the piano when my sister and I were kids. We called it “The Mouse and Elephant Song” because of how the dynamics constantly changed from pianissimo to fortissimo.

Enticing melody, played in creative variations. Thank you for the uplifting experience!! Beethoven -- the one who walked this earth -- his creativity was and is endless. A beautiful melody and its gorgeous configurations echo down halls of grandeur!! Momentous in its Germanic precision, adorned with Kempff's beautiful touch and tone! Bravo! Bravo!

There’s an arrangement of this work by Ferruccio Busoni that Kempff might have known. But Busoni does not have the introduction.

Do you know anything about the intro? Kempff was a composer and was certainly sufficiently expert to have tacked on his own.

@@davidhertzberg I do know that it was well within the stylistic practices of the period to improvise a short introduction beforehand (Czerny talks briefly about it in his treatise).

1:23 but serious question how does he do that?? Like how did he got to voice these notes that way
@destrifan2592
@destrifan2592 3 ай бұрын
Yeah. And how he so economically expresses the tune and harmony. Other comments talk about his creativity. But the hard work of hearing that every other combination of notes does not sound as good as the one he chose to write. I read somewhere that he worked like this. Contrast this with the image we have of notes poring effortlessly out from Mozart. Maybe you have to play it as many different ways as possible before you can know which sounds the most beautiful.

@@destrifan2592yea I have heard about it and the different ways, Mozart and Beethoven wrote music. I also think that Beethoven knew exactly what he wanted to do, the same goes for his markings (p or f for example). But honestly, if somebody thinks "that's how it has to be" it may also be because the person only knows this version of the piece. E.g. Beethoven has written two versions of Für Elise - and most people only prefer one version, maybe because they are so used to it.

@@destrifan2592also, my original comment was more related to the pianist - at 1:23 he plays the repeat in my opinion very different than the first time ( 1:19 ), which I've barely heard anywhere else.
