Anna, thank you for playing this as gentle as Beethoven probably would have. I say that because Beethoven had all sides to him power and gentleness of touch, serious and whimsy, darkness, melancholy, poignancy, the joy, pain and the bombast. I believe his favorite Andante I feel would be played as you are with nuances, sans the heavy-handed version on other interpretations. Just my preference. Yours is a joy. ❤️

Anna, your harmonic chords are so soothing. Your successions of thirds and octaves so mesmerizing!

However simple the tune was. Beethoven couldn’t stop playing it himself. He was obsessed with it and played it ever so often…..

It was for his Immortal Beloved, Josephine von Brunsvik. You can hear her name repeatedly played here. ❤

Now that I've also heard the excellent, one of a kind rendition sonata 32, by Beethoven... I got spoiled, I am afraid... I can't wait to hear sonata 31! Yes! Great Expectations!

A fine performance, Anna; but why did you omit the Bb section repeats?🤔
@michaelzapf1 Жыл бұрын
I agree. What a pity she left out the repeats. Beethoven is dancing a minuet with Josephine here, and minuet parts need to be repeated. Without the repeats the section has lost its balance.

Anna Dmytrenko ist omitting the repeats of bars 82-89 and 90-97. Beethoven clearly wanted them repeated, and why? Because those two 8-bar phrases constitute a minuet (Wikipedia: "the minuet was usually in binary form, with two repeated sections of usually eight bars each."). My interpretation is that Beethoven's imagination is that of a dance with Josephine, and this dance needs the repeats of the typical II:A:II II:B:II form. Omitting them means ignoring the composer's intention, and that ruins an otherwise very sensible interpretation.

having played this with the repeats they are sorely missing! otherwise the playing and expression is wonderful!

Actually it is not quite good performance, the session has been broken down and it is not successive.

Chopin was so good at stealing stuff from greater composers. I wish he was as good at composing music.
