Beethoven: Andante Favori , WoO57, Claudio Arrau

Arrau played this andante as though his life depended on it; I think Beethoven wrote it for him. His tempo is not rushed and he mines the abundant ore of the theme's variations like he's recalling an adagio from a late Qt., especially when he modulates. He was in his 80s when he recorded it and I know it's an early work, but in Arrau's hands it sounds late.
