As an adult business major in college I took up beginning piano at a local music conservatory and loved working on the Bagatelles. Hearing this particular one again brings back a flood of memories.

Beethoven's late Bagatelles (op 119/126) are in fact not trifles to be dismissed; they are seeds. As the mature tree creates acorns, pine cones, seeds etc, and these drop to the ground, these contain the DNA for future works. Dismissed as 'chips from the master's workshop' they should instead be re-heard as miniature masterpieces, each of which could be developed further... perhaps only by a Beethoven. Schnabel provides a classic interpretation.

While the bagatelles op.33 are approachable by amateur pianists, the bagatelles op. 126 seem very difficult to play. They are almost completely form free in structure, rythm, key changes, etc, just about anything. And they require a deep understanding of music.
