Beethoven composed many sonatas. But he wrote only one for a wind-instrument: the horn sonata opus 17!
“Sonate pour le forte-piano avec un cor” is the title that Beethoven gave it. According to his Biographer Ferdinand Ries, he composed the sonata in a great haste on the day before its first performance at which Beethoven performed it himself, with the famous horn player Giovanni Punto (Johann Wenzel Stich).
