I appreciate that in the description section of this video you included the background of the four versions of this piece. I was taught this some 40+ years ago but I had forgotten the details. A few similarities between this overture and the Fourth Symphony (especially its first two movements) written only a year earlier; e.g., the use of syncopations, or the Adagio ma non troppo of the overture with the second movement of the symphony where even the key is the same: Eb major. Robert Schumann on this overture: "With the exception of one weak passage it is a beautiful and refreshing piece of music and well worthy of Beethoven. Introduction, the transition to the Allegro, the first theme, the reminiscence of Florestan's aria, the crescendo at the end; the rich mind of the master radiates from all this."

Ma è semplicemente meravigliosa. E' davvero un'opera diversa dalle altre Leonore anche se si respira la stessa tensione emotiva. Sospendiamo la somiglianza di alcuni temi, sappiamo che il Tema in se non conta, è ciò che se ne fa. E qui Beethoven è veramente magnifico! Altro che inferiore alla Leonore n. 3. Ci sono passaggi di una tensione sconvolgente.

I just listened to the three Leonora Overtures in reverse order. Interesting that two and three have all three Trombone Parts, but this one has none. I have the Dover Score for the entire Fidelio Opera (with its own Overture), which has two Trombone parts (Tenor and Bass). Interesting that Beethoven took four tries to come up with an Overture for his Opera!

A perfectionist I'm sure, and as you know he didn't do another opera. Number 3 was written before 2 but the historians got them mixed up. Seeing how he developed and reused some themes (such as the Choral Fantasy's motif again in the 9th Symphony) is interesting.

And there are not three Leonore overtures - there are four, with the fourth being titled _Overture to Fidelio._ Just read the information in the description of the video - all will become clear. :-)

I still don't understand what problem Abbado had with Beethoven's overtures, he often has a very strange management of tempos
