I first learned of this composition from a James Last BBC concert, 1976. Amid his happily played polkas and other familiar melodies, he says “now a classic by Ludwig van Beethoven - romance in F.” I truly had no idea what I was in store for…but this particular melody has had lasting effects on me. That’s the reason I’m here now watching this seamless performance. O m g.

May I just point out that the chap on the podium who looks like Jimmy Stewart was one of the very best Czech conductors, all too often residing in the shadow of the other Vaclav (Neumann). Check out his Orff recordings, particularly the Afrodite.

I prefer this version to others. I've got a CD with Heifetz playing it but I'm not particularly keen on it as he practically blocks out the orchestra. This version is more balanced and Suk gives it more emotion. Excellent performance indeed.

Suk is one of the great pillars of classical violinist and that will never change....and now there is a flood of young musicians from all over the world esp. Korea and China, just look up "Stefan Jackiw plays Beethoven Romance in F" on his channel, and you will see what I mean! This I see is a good thing, as music should be universal: "for all man(kind)" as Beethoven put it, and "classical music" is still a minority in human society....

Fantastic - more masculinity in his playing. Grumiaux's is more refined and more beautiful whereas Suk has more masculine strength.
