I agree with you. I am just saying that if people appreciate the music.. Regardless of what one refers to it as... Then we should just stop nitpicking and say more positive comments.

This morning, I heard the second, third and fourth movements, but the recording played on the cable music channel was by The Berliner Staatskapelle, conducted by Daniel Barenboim. This is a very nice rendition, too.

It's not a technical matter, but a principle. Everything has a sense in its word and when the word gets lost, the sense goes away with. If you describe or mention something with the wrong word, you ignore its significance. If everyone does the same error, its significance gets completely lost. Do you think that Beethoven (and 1000 other composers) didn't care about the difference between "song" and "symphony"? But anyway, how you correct people is another matter...
