Paavo Järvi and the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen at the Beethovenfest Bonn 2009.
The Symphony No. 9 in D minor, Op. 125, also known as Beethoven's 9th, is the final complete symphony by Ludwig van Beethoven, composed between 1822 and 1824. One of the best-known works in common practice music Beethoven‘s Symphony No. 9 in D minor is regarded by many critics and musicologists as one of Beethoven's greatest works and one of the supreme achievements in the history of western music.
Following the swirling forward thrust of the second movement, stasis: Time seems to come to a halt. This could be Beethoven's depiction of Elysium, paradise, heaven.
Enjoy the 3rd movement Adagio molto e cantabile of Ludwig van Beethoven’s 9th Symphony with conductor of the year 2019 Paavo Järvi and the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen.

It is common repertoire for professional orchestra auditions. I have a recording of it in my channel and have to relearn it again for the Dallas Symphony audition. Not an entirely challenging excerpt, but necessary.

this clip once again displays the brilliance of Maestro Järvi in interpreting Beethoven. For me his sense of phrasing is head and shoulders above any I personally have ever heard. plus - and this in no way is meant to take away from Järvi's expertise - he seems to either attract (or demand?) the very best recording engineers. where else do you hear such clarity and detail in B's symphonies?!

Imo, Beethoven was rolling over in his grave. It's a little too fast to start and it impacts the beautiful transition that happens at 2:15. The versions that are just a tad slower make it more romantic and something I think create the feeling Beethoven wanted. It's good, just the tempo starts too fast to appreciate key moments.

This is one of best slow movements ever. Only god knows how long it took him to write, and how many paper balls he threw before it was completed.

I need to give Mozart some props for being such an inspiration for Beethoven to come up with this after 20 years. Imagine if mozart had never revolutionized instrumentation and didnt give woodwinds a more "prominent" role and voice in his works, would this ever have been completed? Would Beethoven have come up with all his mozartean woodwind parts where they sometimes dominate the music? Haydn didnt learn mozarts woodwind techniques until late in life as well. Mozart is a big reason why this movement is beautiful. Without mozart, this movement or even this symphony wouldnt exist.

I m a fan of maestro Jarvi and this is moving me to tears. Shows all the delicacy of Beethoven's genius (same as last string quartets and piano sonatas). The middle passage for the winds is beyond words. Debussy-like! And a sort of "sound-painting" all way through. Very inspiring and heart-rending. ♥️🙏

I've been listening to Beethoven and Mozart over 40 years and I feel this movement starts a tad bit too fast. The emotional transition to a new theme around 2:10 is slightly less romantic at the higher tempo. The rest is beautiful. Just cut a little tempo to start and it will be perfect.

This just started playing on my list ( Spotify), and since I am on the free version, I thought to look it up on KZbin, so that I could share it. On my way to a sort of early tea with some friends, at another friend's restaurant and the meeting is to celebrate the life of one of us, who departed this world, a year ago. Yes, this movement, just about connect the dots for me, with regards to the cascading emotion. Thanks 🤝

You also get unorganized, and bad writing in the final movement. Romantics will say "it's romance! He did it on purpose." ..A lot of trained musical geniuses have commented on the sloppiness and lack of discipline and understanding. When Beethoven didn't know how to transition to something or have any new ideas, he would literally just stop the transition and change to new theme or drastic key to hide the fact he was lost. He was a good composer , not great. The best thing he did was study mozart. It saved him and allowed him to painstakingly write perfect music over years to make you think he was the greatest. Schubert was a better composer than Beethoven. Beethoven cemented his legacy though. I'll give him that.

@@beethovenlovedmozartJust read yer comment; you have made some very factual statements, I concur..., now I ask you to listen to this (great!) musical piece & not try to analyze it so logically; let it seep into your "heart & soul" if you will..., this IMHO defines Beethoven's greatness in realizing the symphonic form..., a few composers afterwards, like Dvorak & Tchaikovsky wrote great symphonies..., but even then..., Beethoven still sits at the pinnacle for many listeners/musicians. Addendum: I really like a lot of Schubert's work, but it does not display the passion or fortitude of Ludwig's...,

@@beethovenlovedmozart That's a bit silly, without Renaissance music you have no Bach without Bach you have no Mozart, without Gregorian Chants you have no Renaissance music.. I think you get the point! You rcomment has zero to do with the brilliance of the 9th Symphony.

@@Acujeremy all points I've heard before, and it's not the same thing. Mozart was in Beethovens lifetime. Of course Bach and "Gregorian chants" had influence. Mozart and Haydn lived in Beethovens time and directly shaped his music and life. Mozarts use of woodwinds heavily influenced Beethoven and without it, the last 20 years of his life may have been much different. This is about that girl you let get away in college shaping the direction you take in life and not about a beautiful girl you see in an old book from three hundred years ago. When you hear Beethovens best works, including this one, people should respect what Mozart had done just 35 years earlier. Before Mozart, woodwinds had way less of a role in concertos and symphony. String instruments dominated. Mozart was one of greatest ever at writing melodies for the human voice. The human voice is a wind instrument and Mozart knew it needed to be more prominent and have a greater role so he changed that. My original point was that had Mozart not done that, thr next 30 years of Beethovens music would've been much closer to Haydn and be a little different. Haydn and Mozart lived in Beethovens lifetime and that can't be stated enough. We absolutely should be thankful to Mozart for this symphony especially.

@@Acujeremy The "brilliance" of the 9th symphony would be nothing without Mozart and Haydn teaching him. BTW, it's no secret Beethoven idolized Mozart and studied him every day for most of his life. So I don't really get how Beethoven fans get so offended when I mention it! Beethoven didn't have that much of an imagination, couldnt write a melody or opera to save his life, then magically pulls out this symphony after 20 years. Beethoven knew it would be his last work. A 10th symphony was never going go happen because Beethoven was a slow composer. Knowing it would be his last major work, what does he do? He makes the key "D minor" which by some amazing coincidence just happens to be the same key as Mozarts last major work! Go figure right? Then Beethoven used Mozart techniques everywhere for the whole symphony. For some reason Beethoven fans get offended when mention him in same breath as Mozart as if Mozart was some talentless hack that doesn't compare. I hate to break it to fans, but Mozart was more talented, and a better composer than Beethoven. Any work you spend 20 years writing better be grest and that's what the 9th symphony is. Anyways, this piece has brilliant ideas in it by Beethoven. He even has a couple ground breaking original ideas in it. It's a great piece of music and I acknowledge the greatness of it. I'm just pointing out how important having Mozart and haydn in life really was.
