So encouraging to see another youth orchestra performing the classical repertoire with such enthusiasm. Thanks for the posting.

Wow, I really enjoyed this performance! It’s so refreshing to see this level of virtuosity among such youthful players. Even more refreshing is the level of musicianship and excellent phrasing displayed by such a young group. The choir is also outstanding, and their amazingly clear diction is what makes the finale work so well at a brisker tempo. My only criticism is very minor and has nothing to do with the players, choristers, or excellent soloists, but rather is the conductor (whose clear vision and strong grasp of this monumental work is apparent) allowing the tempo of the adagio movement to become a bit too breezy and thus slightly holding back the full expression from his very capable players. What a great performance, and I am very excited to hear what’s next for these outstanding young musicians!

Thanks to Beethoven, the ode became musical when he composed his Ninth Symphony and added “Ode to Joy” at the end.

Such lively, angular, highly contrasted playing. And now I know why - the director specialises in baroque performance!

just a social observation, you always see whites and east asians in symphony orchestras and music competitions, and almost zero other minorities (southeast asians, indians, blacks, persians, arabs, hispanics, etc.) i wonder why that might be the case. having said that, this is the most vital, freshest reading of the ninth i have heard in recent memory....youth or adult orchestras. bravi a tutti

The choir was made of singers from 41 different countries. The orchestra was all from Germany, so there was a slight difference in the make up of the ensembles, but you are right! Often the high cost of instruments and music study is prohibitive for many, and more could be done to make access more equitable.

Incredible in the first three movements, then falls apart completely in the fourth movement. Quite unfortunate.
