These are souch fun and interesting! It literally takes forever to film this and then splice it....the filming alone is an amazing feat. The artist who created Predator said he looked at a Crab. You want real monsters? Go to the insect world. Man wouldn't stand a chance. During the Revolutionary War, diaries read that the battle between mosquitoes, flies, Horse Flys, worms, etc etc, al was worse than the actual battles. On all fronts the men were ravaged by insects. Especially wounded men! That puts a new light on things -

In the 1960s, as a kid, I can remember finding a staghorn Beetle one day. I had never seen one before so I aggravated that thing with a stick trying to get him to clamp on. Poor thing, he was probably trying to find a mate, and I was blocking him at every move! 😮

Procreation IS the purpose.

It's the case for a lot of prey species that are likely to be get eaten sooner rather than later. Semelparity it is called.

They have short adult lives but much longer lives - several years - as larvae.
