Most bands sometimes have a stand out member in some live performances and the comments on youtube are full of "*enter name* is incredible!"... But seriously... watch this video 4 times and focus on each of the band members individually and you start to get a rough idea of just how incredible warpaint are as musicians and performers. TheAgentAssassin I think that remains to be seen. Standards have changed since the bands you mentioned were around. The world will react differently to today's artists and the only way to tell whether they will withstand the test of time is to give them time itself. I'm not saying warpaint can't be better than old bands that have been written in history, merely that warpaint aren't history and so it's difficult to declare them as equals to many others.

Check out the NPR live at the 9:30 Club version recorded this past October. It's not on KZbin but Google it and skip in the video about 40 minutes. They've dropped the cool intro, but it's sounding more like the old versions again. I was at that show, and beetles was transcendent! Honestly, watch the entire thing. It's a full show, about 90 minutes but it's so good. Especially the last hour!

Since you mentioned the guitar models, I think Stella's drums are probably a backline kit for this performance/session. She usually uses Istanbul cymbals, and many videos on YT show her using vintage Premier and Pearl drums and a '70's or 80's Ludwig Acrolite snare. Not sure if she's officially endorsing or using a certain brand these days. She's one of my favorite drummers of today. Lots of fresh stuff in her playing.

It's probably the discretion of whoever is writing the songs that use them. This band has a duality with trying experiments on studio records that wouldn't be practical with the four of them playing together, and then forming an alternate "live" arrangement based around their stage setup. Having all acoustic drumkits on the albums would be a limitation on certain kinds of things they've been doing all the way back to the first album. It's not a big deal to me, there are usually nice soundboard recordings of the important stuff after they have time to tour the new music.

Great sound, im an older listener so ive had a long time listening to different bands from late 70s through 80s, 90s 00s Im massive fan of radiohead, but ive loved all sorts of bands like the cure, echo and the bunnymen, Bowie, the police, bob marley, jeff buckley, the verve, BRMC, sound garden, keane, kings of leon, kasabian, M83, biffy clyro, my morning jacket, marylyn manson, muse, nothing but thieves, pulp, thirteen senses, twenty one pilot's, even roxy music! 😁 my taste is fairly eclectic as you can see and this is what i can list off top of my head i havent mentioned bands i have one or two songs of, that list would take me a week. What i want to say is this, i pride myself on having a fairly good ear for bands, when i listen to a song its not long before you know they dont have that certain something and you dont chase up more from them. Warpaint are not a band i would ignore, this is the first time ive heard them and i get vibes of all sorts of my favourites but still has its own uniqueness and i must say i love it. Ill be looking up more from this band and hopefully adding them to the pile of music ive collected (digitally now of course! Mp3! What a godsend that was!!!) Ok quality suffers a bit but hey entire collections in the palm of your hand! So cool, i was around when you had to go to special record shops by treking into london and buying white label records to get real new music! Then having to trek all the way home before you could listen to it again!!! Can you imagine!? 😂 Well i digress, for me warpaint, beetles, great great track. Something special about the band. Will delve deeper. Thanks for posting video!!
