I was pumped when I got the first one, but I quickly learned that the button lock mechanism on these is just the worst. I recommend unscrewing the button and putting some loctite on it first thing. Mine flew off after the first day. It took months to get the replacement. And when it comes lose at all, the exposed threads grind and make it feel real gritty. It will get caught up and prevent you from closing the blade. If they could make this with a traditional button lock mechanism it would be 10/10.

I had to loctite the button on my version 1 also, but V2 has a lot better button and spring. I have not had any issue thus far and I've been flipping it like crazy. The button has not budged, so maybe that's why it was improved? Thank you Matt!

I love the Cormorant, I now have the XX and Playstation versions and have the new Green Micarta on the way. Love their look, open and close action and the multiple ways to open them. Now I just have to figure out how to dye them the way I want. Thanks for the video.

And I am really digging the disassembly videos. Nothing sets a channel apart like a disassembly video. Please keep doing the tear downs with the reviews. I want to know what is inside a knife just as much as the external dimensions and parts.

I think your button might be unscrewing and that’s why it sticks out so far. Mine doesn’t stick out that far. I had to take mine apart and wrap Teflon tape around the threads and screw it back together so it would stay on. Hate for it to fly apart on you! My pivot backs off on me too. Had to do the Teflon tape trick on it too!

Right. I don't use loctite on a knife unless a screw loosens. I check them, and most of the time I never need to. I discovered this idea from OCD4EDC and It's working for me. Thank you Jf Penguen!

This is going to sound like a stupid question but here it goes. I just watched the video on the Eafengrow EF951. It looked like Beez Blades was surprised that it also was 3 methods of opening the blade. I am guessing because at first look, the front flipper tab is different. Here is my question, which is easier to front flip a straight up and down like this one or the angled front flipper like the EF951?

Looks like a flashback to the Beatles 'Yellow Submarine. Love it. It seems like great jimping on the back of the blade, You can really choke up on the blade with that jimping. The white bits on the V2 looks nicer in my opinion. The V1 almost looks like the scales were tied on.

I'm with you man! I'm one of those people who love the way this knife looks! I missed it the first time around but just got my new version yesterday. The second run just started shipping. Love it! Couple of things that are bothering me: The Edge grind is slightly off on one side which I guess isn't a big deal. Also the backflipper seems very stiff. I don't have the strongest biggest hands but I'm hoping it will break in. Sometimes I can't get it to flip it all. Did you have that experience? I took it apart and cleaned it and everything is running smooth like butter but sometimes my fingers just can't break that detent when using the backflipper. The button lock deployment is good, but the others are mediocre. Pocket clip is so tight as to be unusable without adjusting. I do like the blade shape, but I’m glad I didn’t pay more than $100 for the serape blanket handle version

@@BeezBlades I mean, I’ve always wondered why this knife doesn’t have like a cult following, I’m all about V2. Not crazy about the 3v/Micarta version tho, TBH. Wouldn’t be my choice in blade steel, or handle material. 3v is kinda…well…stupid on a small folder. Maybe for a camping chopper where you need toughness, but not edge retention -not for a fidget friendly manual button lock folding knife. LMAO I don’t get it. The standard S35vn is better than 3v… I saw some Ti ones on Docs Insta and hope those are made available, as they would be my preference for sure.

This knife looks like one of my ex-girlfriends we used to call her duck face, she was shocking (Anna you know who you are) great in other departments. A reversible pocket clip from Kizer, must be the first time, they hate left? I like the number two but I missed out, Id take both. Id bee buzzing if I got one this year.

Finally got my Rant in 3V and brown Micarta. . I can't stop myself from modifying everything so it is already changing fast. Acid etched black blade. Jimping on the inside of the spidey hole makes all the spidey flicks easier for me... planning to color the scales when I figure out what will hold and the scheme. Unfortunately I also ran into a fairly large problem that would make me hesitate to recommend this knife to anyone. I also heard of others run into this, though not as bad as mine that I ran across anyhow. I have the fix for it, but it is fairly complex for most people I think... I no longer feel like it is a super good quality like I did originally... which blows goats since I was hoping this was good enough to stop my obsession. I still love it and it is still my best steel, just sayin. The Smock M4 is now looking more worth it even though I kind of dislike Spyderco. Too big for their britches kind of thing. Nickle and dime you for every little thing. I like underdogs.. unfortunately. The issue I had was some lock stick that turned into a full seize. At first it was just a sticky release and I resisted tearing into it right away and gave it a few days of breaking in... it got better.. then worse, then better..(The lock bar can rotate and wear differently in one place vs another so that is possible).. then so bad I had to disassemble the knife to close it any time it opened hard. The issue is a bit hard to explain with text. Not sure I can paint a good enough picture... I may make a vid about it in the unlikely event I get enough energy for that. But I will try here in case anyone is interested. Basically the problem is: The lock bar is able, (under a harder open), to come out from the hole it rides in at the spring side. The whole bar/button then goes slightly sideways and wedges in something fierce. Also once you take a good look at the blade lock design.. you may come to the conclusion it just isn't that strong.. which is how I feel now unfortunately. There is not a lot of meat connecting the blade to the handle as well, and the lock channel is relying on some pretty thin material to never break or flex. Hope that 3V is as strong as they say lol. I wish I could have them redesign it with all the ideas I have in mind (then send me a free one).. but.. well yeah I would like to fly like superman too lol. My potential fixes: 1.The quick and dirty (which I have done for a temp fix, and I really do not recommend this one). The idea is to move that hole the spring and button lock go into, "slightly" closer to the blade WITHOUT bending anything else. You could rig something up with clamps, vices etc. and probably do a better job but what I ended up doing is to take the spring side of the liner and place it on a flat work bench that has a hole in it. Take a punch and punch the edges of the hole slightly more towards the blade side. The tolerances are already very tight and it is very close to the bearing surface.. I really can't recommend it but I know some people are only willing to do so much work and this got my knife reliable. The main downside with this other than "the Ghetto", is doing it in a way that does not effect the bearing surface and the blade centering. With the right equipment or patience making a jig, or some hindsight with a vice, I could pull it off well.. (probably) but.. too late! Slightly off center for now. lol 2. Make a sleeve similar to what the button side has that extends slightly toward the blade from the liner. You probably don't even have 1mm to work with so it is a very slight extend. Probably tonight I will make this.. It will require finding something HARD, the perfect size and cutting it to be even more perfect. Likely grinding some micarta to make room for what essentially is a small washer around that hole between the micarta and the sleeve. Drilling out the original hole in the liner to make room for this new sleeve. At that point It should work well but is still not as strong as it could be. We will see. 3. The best fix would come from the factory and in my view look something like #2 above in combination with: The spring side of the bar lock.. the end that does the work.. is just not long enough to work into the area on the blade and be in the liner at the same time.. maybe the blade divot for the lock just needs... something beyond my experience... but it was not really awe inspiring in strength to begin with.. and to make it less indented so the bar stays in the liner more... I don't know.. The lock bar also is pretty flimsy looking for such an important part. I personally would like to see it 2mm longer at the spring holder area.. and with a smaller diameter hole and smaller diameter spring used. This would leave more steel for strength, and the new length would allow the bar to slide into the liner deep enough this issue would never happen again.. even if a pivot were loose. So in conclusion, even if you get lucky and get a good one, there is just not a lot holding that button/bar into the locked position. I could never trust it after seeing what I have seen. I mean it is far more likely it would seize open.. not fail on you and close.. but I recommend you do one of these fixes if you are interested...or maybe bother Kizer enough to update their design. I do not have good luck with such things, so Godspeed lol. One thing is clear.. I definitely overpaid for this knife.. on the other hand Smocks are going for 300-700$ on ebay and can suck my damn balls. Plus I liked the weird this knife offered. Buying a huge name like that would feel like I gave in haha. Guess I'll just modify beyond recognition to satisfy myself.. AS USUAL!.. sigh. FML. Back to my "laboratory". -MadGearHead
