@@tressteleg1 they're starting work on it. Train replacement buses running either this week or next. Judging by how long it has taken for other level crossings to be replaced on this line the timeframe sounds about right

Hey tressteleg1 you have posted another great video. I like the new skyrail section and the parts that will get skyrail in the future. They could have included Upfield station as a future skyrail project considering the protesters wanting improvements beyond Gowrie. This inclusion will depend on the state government's view and intentions .

Not living in Melbourne, I can’t comment on whether Upfield should have been elevated or not, but all the crossing removals are for the benefit of motorists, passengers being inconvenienced by the need to go up or down to reach stations no longer at street level. It is a bit unfortunate that the line will again be closed for some time if the planned city end of the line gets those several station uplifts done.

@@tressteleg1 I know that you live on the gold coast now because you stated that in a previous reply to a comment I made. The comment about Upfield station is just my view on the subject. Yes the crossing removals do benefit motorists. They would have put in lifts and stairs for passengers in the skyrail stations. Again all of the train videos that you post on KZbin are great viewing from my perspective.

@@frankbanner8572 I accept your local knowledge about Upfield. In some places these Skyrails ruined the village atmosphere around stations. If running a bit late to get a train, the need to use lifts or stairs is still an inconvenience, even if views from raised platforms may be interesting.

Hi Tressteleg thanks for another video from my "home" line (though I live in Brisbane, Brunswick was where I was born and raised and is always my first journey when I make my annual trips *home*). Would I be right to assume the after video was on a better camera than the before as it seemed in much better quality. Also, and your not the first to do this (I raised a rant on a RailPage forum regarding the stations to put on Skyrail on the Upfield line) just on 16 minutes the train crosses Union St to stop at J E W E L L station - not Jewel as you have captioned😊. Other than that a perfect video 😂
@tressteleg1
@tressteleg1 Жыл бұрын
No I have no idea what camera driver uses but I know that over the years he has changed cameras a few times. As for misspelling Jewell, that was the least of my worries trying to get that video right. For some reason the newer train was running slower and I had to electronically speed it up different amounts in different sections. The hardest thing to do is to proof read your own work. As for the gradient from the zoo station to get over Park Street, I suppose they will have some way of doing this although it’s always possible they could tunnel under that road. I don’t think closing it would be politically acceptable, even though Brunswick Road is nearby.

Was at the Fawkner cemetery early in June paying respects to relatives. I guess not many cemeteries have a railway station in them. That could be one of the longer continuous stretches of skyrail thus far
@tressteleg1
@tressteleg1 Жыл бұрын
Certainly Fawkner is the only cemetery that I know of which still has a station inside its boundary, but whether this is coincidental or not, I don’t know. Sandgate cemetery in Newcastle from memory still had a ?Sunday service until a few decades ago, but the big one was Rookwood (Flemington) which had a branch railway into the grounds. Sydney ran regular funeral trains starting from the Mortuary Station, that church-like stone structure just slightly south of platform 1 Central, while there was a chapel beside the railway in Rookwood. That service ended well before the 1960s and the church there was removed and rebuilt stone by stone as a church in Canberra. A google search will tell you a lot more. The Brunswick Skyrail could well be the longest, presuming that somehow they can splice the completed section onto the new part.

It was tricky. The After train was going slower, so sections between each station had to be sped up somewhere between 107% and 112%, so clearly the sound came from Before. Glad you liked it. I’ll have to do some more.

Interesting before/after video. I wonder if the 2027 planned street crossings eliminations will be more skyrail or bridges/tunnels?? Thanks Tresseleg1😀💚
@tressteleg1
@tressteleg1 Жыл бұрын
Skyrail is just the fancy name for rail bridges - this is the cheapest method of grade separation, so I expect that this will be the option used for the next level crossing removals on this line.

Watching the train move into the Royal Park area after Jewell I never really noticed the descent as the line runs down to the station at the Zoo. It's going to be a steep climb coming out of Royal Park and to get enough height over Park Street for trains heading for Upfield - or would they maybe close Park Street crossing totally?

Great video as usual! While I understand LXRA’s approach on prioritizing the busiest level crossings, I wonder if taking a more holistic approach would lead to better outcomes. Upfield line is almost straight but will end up with two separate viaducts because of separate projects that could be easily done as one.
@tressteleg1
@tressteleg1 Жыл бұрын
I’m wondering how they will splice the new viaduct to the existing one. From memory from the video, one of the new streets is on the ramp, so they may have to remove or raise that. Wait and see. I expect that more urgent locations were allocated the money first, but having to change what was only recently built is wasteful. Also Victoria is getting deeply in debt with this and other projects. If the Libs get in at the next election, forget about all these plans. Balancing the budget is their sole plan anywhere.
@luizaugustoramos2520
@luizaugustoramos2520 Жыл бұрын
@@tressteleg1 Do you think the Libs would scrap the project? I mean, I know they deal with money differently, but the political cost of not moving forward with infrastructure projects could be very high.

@@luizaugustoramos2520 liberal votes usually come from much more prosperous suburbs than Brunswick. Both federal and state have always put balancing the books 1st and it’s generally agreed that Victoria is somewhat in debt.

As a local, they should've removed ohea and Gaffney St, it's essentially Murray Road and they both get very busy in the mornings. And you could practically roll down the hill to Merlynston.
@tressteleg1

Agreed. I lived at Glenroy when a tram driver around 1990 and even then those streets were quite busy. I suppose that one day the line will be closed for months while those streets are bypassed.

I wouldn't be surprised when they duplicate the Gowrie - Upfield section they move Upfield station to the UP side of Barry Rd and the crossing is then just used for stabling yard access 🤔
@tressteleg1
@tressteleg1 Жыл бұрын
Just looking at the satellite map, that would probably be a good idea, certainly much cheaper than a bridge with station on top. The only potential complaints could be having to cross the road to access the shops or whatever at present beside the station. Also the car park may have to remain where it is now. Wait and see.

@@tressteleg1 Plus I'm pretty sure moving between sidings has to be done at max 15km/h so the level crossing would be down for ages
@tressteleg1
@tressteleg1 Жыл бұрын
Well you probably have a much better idea than me. I just thought that there would not be many trains, and most would have left the sidings well before peak hour, and returned mostly after the pm peak. It seemed like an extravagance to avoid a few trains. And look at Lilydale. A quiet village atmosphere has been overwhelmed by a monstrosity just for a few siding trains mostly not in the peak hour.

Such a missed opportunity to make the sky rails visually attractive from a train users point of view. Lots of boring, ugly, metal, that's hard to see over; they will make fun of us in 50 years time.
