Very important SMELL THE MACHINE and the cover if it’s available. You will be sitting very close to this thing for hours on end- mold, mildew, cat urine, tobacco smells won’t ever go away. If the machine smells very fragrant they may be trying to mask an odor. Great info, thanks for sharing.

I'm so lucky, my aunt gave me her sewing machine from the 1970s and it sews soooo well still ❤️ The lightbulb is also from the 70s, it's crazy how good the quality was back then. It's also heavy af, because it's made out of metal 😊

a question to ask - i just purchased a vintage machine from a goodwill. it uses an uncommon bobbin. it came with one bobbin, so i at least have that. ask what kind of bobbin it uses. not all take a universal. even the ones that are manufactured today that are listed as working for this machine, do not.

I have never used a sewing machine except for when I worked in the state prison and was supervising inmates who operated machines. When I got ready to buy a machine I chose to buy a new machine and not take a chance on a used machine.

I just learned to sew during the first lockdown and bought a very basic Singer sewing machine from Argos for £85 and it’s FANTASTIC! As long as I use a quality thread I never have any problems with it. 🤷‍♀️😃

@@rumaysahkhan7552 I haven’t tried curtains but it’s a sturdy machine and as long as the fabric isn’t too heavy and you use the correct needle size I’d imagine you’ll manage.
