I love this film. Linklater is a G, this film is awesome. Go watch it and go watch some Rohmer. Let me know what you wanna see next please.

Hi everyone, thank you so much for your support. I've decided to launch a Patreon for those who would like to show even more support to the channel. I don't make any money from KZbin so this financial support would allow me to keep making videos for you all! 😄 patreon.com/Rexsvensson05

I absolutely adore this trilogy, the chemistry between them and how the "certainty" that their time together is gonna end and they're probably not gonna see each other again allowed them to be themselves and uncover parts that probably would have come up until months later into any relationship

Yes!! I completely agree, that's what's so special about their circumstances. They don't know each other, they don't know anyone who knows the other, on both sides theyre completely strangers which gives them a sort of "there's nothing to lose" mentality and allows them to trust the other and be themselves.

It also felt so intimate because we go to listen to entire long uncut deep conversations. Honestly this has to be one of the best romance movies ever made

ME TOO!! You should still watch this... Even if you ball your eyes out sometimes that needs to happen. It's a great film. But really cool you see those places I feel the same way when I watch "exotic" films depicting Bangkok hahaha

That was great. Short and sweet. It's funny you say that the film makes you smile; it makes me cry. Yes, there's the warmth and enthusiasm of young love, but that's the very thing that makes me cry. I'm fifty-one so it's almost like a wake for my own youth. The juxtaposition between what I felt at 22 with what I feel now is just so stark. Also, the added layer of watching their innocence knowing they're going to end up in Before Midnight. That's really painful. It's just so raw and real. And yes, Eric Rohmer is also one of my very favorite filmmakers. Thank you for your video.

Your comment made my day. Thank you so much. Since I am in that period I see the beauty of it. The hope and optimistic naivety. I'm glad you enjoyed the video.

I think my other comment was deleted! I left you two youtube links to do with Rohmer. One was Richard Linklater discussing Rohmer's Le Rayon Vert and the other was a lovely meditation called "Rohmer in Paris." Rohmer is one of my very favorites and I'd recommend them both. :)

My problem with this movie was the Ethan Hawke character is dull, uninteresting, cynical and somewhat unlikeable. They are clearly on different frequencies and basically argue after the first 5 mins. There is nothing for her to feel connected to him other than the fact he is handsome, which is fine but it then renders the whole premise null and void. There's nothing deep, no connection, they just fancy each other. Lost in Translation does it better.

How old are you to call this a masterpiece? You are a kid I can tell, not everything need to be over analyzed… it ain’t that deep. The execution of this movie was lazy but I would give it a 6

Well, since art is subjective, he’s well within his rights to call it a Masterpiece by his own standards. There’s also the general consensus towards the film, which is given more credence over time, that the film and its sequels actually are masterpieces. If you didn’t want an “over analysis” then watching video essays is going to cause you quite the headache, haha
