Before the U.S. Existed! - Metal Detecting a 1740’s Stone House finds STUNNING Old Coins & Relics!

While out scouting for metal detecting locations for the fall, we stumbled across an amazing mid-1700's farmhouse tucked away behind the trees and virtually unchanged for centuries. It was almost dusk when we found it so we went back the following day and got permission from the gracious homeowner to detect the ground of the house. It didn't take long to realize that this place had never been detected before as we pulled out some beautiful colonial era coins and relics, most in incredible shape! Needless to say, we will be back to hunt the surrounding fields after the fall harvest but getting access to the house where most of the early activity took place, is like having your desert before dinner!

In England one of my favourite things to find is Livery buttons. 😊.

@@dogtagdoug6751 Hi Doug they are found frequently but not prolific by any stretch. I have been detecting in England 40+ years. The last 30 years being more seriously having joined metal detecting clubs. My Livery button collection would be about a 100 buttons over that time comprising Gold plated and Silver plated types of all different front designs. My brothers Livery button collection will be about the same. There are hundreds of designs because each major land owner had their own design. I also love finding Military buttons but more from the late 18th century to early 19th century. The weird things is that over here people don't have any interest in buttons because they only have one thing on their mind when out detecting that they have got to find that next hammered coin. 😞. I left that idea behind years ago when after talking to a person who had been detecting way before me said you can only find what you walk over. Sorry to waffle on so long but it isn't everyday one gets to chat to a You Tube celebrity. 😊.

@@dogtagdoug6751 We are blessed with the history over here but there is a dividing line which separates England into two sections when it comes to finding those old coins and artefacts and that is a town called York. Basically North of York was fairly poor and a baron waste land and south of York was prosperous and when you get nearer London the most wealthy lived there. I live well north of York and have to fight for every item I find. I would give my right leg to live down near London and go detecting because the finds quality is like night and day to up here. But saying that I am happy with my detecting, I cannot grumble with what I have found. Also with the buttons you can look at the back marks and look up when the button was made. I have to laugh because a few years back I found a 3 cent trime dated 1860 with a hole in for a pendant. HH from across the pond. 😊. P.s. Can you not get a group together and come over here for a couple of weeks, but don't come to my neck of the woods you will end up pulling your hair out from lack of finds. Lol. 😂.

Reminds me when I was growing up, my father collected coins and stamps. He bought his secretary desk in 1948 and filled it with old coins in collectors books. His stamps was in special stamp books. He would tell us the history of each coin and stamp. I could listen to him forever, not to mention his war stories. Thanks for bringing me some wonderful memories.
