Can you name some Transformers Unicron Trilogy characters or toys (Transformers Armada, Transformers Energon, Transformers Cybertron) that were homages to past Transformers characters but not just in name in design also? We cover some unique ones here

Same here, 2000 in general were my childhood and I'm so glad that both RID2001 and Unicron Trilogy kicked started my love for Transformers.

Hell yeah, I remember having friends over and fighting with the robots, the comics, the games, the bios, the powered up forms, it was so easy to just get lost in it and you could really tell they were having fun with cybertron.

Ut really hit its stride with cybertron/gf, that said energon/sl decepticons were pretty solid. The fact that they'd get retooled for botcon/tfcc years after the fact says something.

One thing I noticed is how megatrons designs took a lot of inspiration from some of the big dog decepticons like the armada had elements of scorpinok/bludgeon, superlink galvatron looks like a cross between thunderwing and the original, cybertron throws me off cause the blue makes me think overload but the orange and teal I guess could be banzaitron and the helmet on that ones really grown on me cause it’s got these oni like horns as the head crest

I really liked Galaxy Force Exillion's design as a reinterpretation of Hot Rod, with all those little nods to the original G1 design and also Nitro Convoy, whose alt mode gives very strong Speed Racer vibes. I think I just really like all the Speedia part of the story and the final race.

Shortround from Transformers Cybertron had to have been a call back to G1 Seaspray. Maybe also the character from Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, although I’m not sure what that connection would be

"Batmobile" ... I was this old when the "!" came on. I missed that one, lol. I do hope they revisit the power link concept ... Landcross is one of my favorite character's from Victory. Thanks, D., great vid.

If they revisit the power link the figures I expect will likely be weaponizers to shake it up a bit more as customising the figures!!

This period was my re generation G1. It brought me back to collecting. The metro Plex for Cybertron was without a doubt metro Plex yet brought his character down to a scale that would just go with other characters in the story. Cryo scourge satisfied my enough with the color scheme looking similar to the 86 movie scourge. Smokescreen out of the crosswise mold is fantastic looking in Alt. Mode. Those are just a few things that I liked about it. I could go on and on. During that time, I did not watch the attached media. I was simply collecting based on looks and nostalgia. I only recently have watched Cybertron and new things are becoming cool to me now that I know them. I spent a good 15 years with toys I had no idea had the background it did. My head cannon and collecting was what it was. This collection keeps bringing new things all these years later. I hope more characters make it to the generations selects line and retail. Imagine a modern leader class/triple changing Cybertron Megatron and the chromed out gen. Selects GALVATRON to follow. Excellion and hotshot morphing into their own thing is a personal request as I see them as separate characters already. Excellent discussion!!!

Don’t forget Crosswise/Autovolt was designed after Jazz, and Override/Nitro Convoy’s vehicle mode is a cross between Elita-1 and Minerva

Wait, wait, I never thought about it that way. The Kre-O Micro Changers Combiners may have had a secondary purpose of renewing combiner limb names for Combiner Wars.

I would have said that Armada Sparkplug (mini con) looks more like Micromaster Free Wheeler. Their alt modes look more like Lamborghini Countach. But I do see Bumble Bee in the head sculpt.

The toys were great. The Americanized cartoons were a mess especially Energon. I'll stick with Japanese subs.
