I did mine a few years ago and the hold up I ran into was the type of Ignition system and how it fires off the distributor, I had to buy an additional part from Holley, the Sniper EFI coil driver module. I think it’s included now but at the time it was not and the instructions had no mention of it. The reliability of your electrical system is the biggest hurdle IMO. Wire chafing and unexpected grounding can leave you stranded at best and burn your car down if you’re really unlucky.

Excellent breakdown video on EFI conversion. I switched to an aftermarket EFI system about 3 years ago. I think you’re spot on on the pre-work. I would add that anyone considering this on a Bronco should consider the entire fuel system. If you’re running a stock single or dual tank setup, you may want to consider going with a larger rear tank with an internal fuel pump. It works great! However, there is no easy way to go back to a carb later. Regardless of which fuel pump setup you use, make sure you have a strong ground source to the frame. Thanks!

Thanks for the tips. I have a Holley Sniper sitting on the shelf to hopefully install when I finish my 351w build for my 69 Bronco

Awesome, I feel like you were talking to me, ha! I’ve got the EFI kit on my parts shelf! The last thing I haven’t upgraded. I’ll do it and if it doesn’t work great I’ll blame you! :) nice overview of all the other things that’ll need to be thought of! You know what would be good to show is how to run EFI on dual tanks, maybe with your new bronco build? A switch for pump 1 and 2 and how to route then returns, maybe on a valve switch just for tank 1 and 2.

Haha! Happy to help! The dual tanks would be a good video, maybe I’ll do that. How would you run the return line? 🧐

curious, as I'm considering starting a bronco project (buying a frame, axles, suspension, sheet metal panels to weld up a tub, and assembling from nothing) but how long did it take you from buying that frame and restoring it to the point of being able to drive it? and other than contracting out/paying for people to do work (like the powder coating, axle assmebly) did you do most of the assembly/restoration yourself or did you have helping hands?

Great video brother... The only thing that I didn't see you cover, would be the possible need for a fuel return like back to the tank. I know you've installed 2 different systems now, did you ever need that extra return line? Thx!
@NashvilleEarlyBronco

Ahhh! True! I totally forgot to mention that. Both systems required a return. On my stock tank I actually just ran the return back through one of my vent ports.

My 75 Bronco has the dual tanks, and that extra complication caused me to stick with my stock carb.

How are liking the Pro Flo 4? I’ve been thinking about getting it for my 88 F150. I’m just kind of hesitant on it because I’ve got a 6” lift on 35s and I’m wanting to make good torque. I’ve got an air gap and AV2 carb at the moment and it’s just not doing it for me.

I have a sniper setup on my 72 and love it. Why did you have to change manifolds w/ the fitech and which manifold did you end up purchasing?
@NashvilleEarlyBronco

When I did the Fitech, they really only had one style, so I got the Edelbrock performer 289 intake manifold.

With the crank shaft, intake, and efi how much horsepower do you estimate you picked up. How is the response on the road? Coyote is a big expense but that 302 can get 300hp pretty easily.
@NashvilleEarlyBronco
@NashvilleEarlyBronco 2 жыл бұрын
Definitely not to the 300 range, but probably went from 125hp to the high 100’s or low 200’s

I put a Holley Sniper system on my Bronco and did a lot of the same things Jon did, such as: intake, distributor, headers and cam. But I also added aluminum heads and the difference is night and day. Another thing I did was add a high flow water pump and aluminum radiator to deal with the additional heat generated. Having enough juice to crank the EFI is important like Jon said. I went with a 220 amp alternator and a dual Optima battery setup so I wouldn’t have any starting issues in the dead of winter. With the modifications I did, I’d estimate the motor is making roughly 350hp at the crank.

So where did you find a full 12 volt power source during crank? I have a chevelle and when I crank over the engine power coming out of the ignition port on the fuse panel drops to around 9 volts. Any suggestions?

Fitech FCC is useless, and has more issues that you bargain for. Inline or intank pumps are the best. Dont use their fuel lines either, get your own EFI hoses and clamps. I only use FiTech system to deliver fuel. No fans, or timing control - I have separate controls for those components. The less you have to rely on the system, the better!
