Nice wrap up to the GB divide. You were pointing out some variations that would make the route better. With your knowledge, maybe design/ develop a better route. Call it "Josh's GB divide " Thanks for all your excellent work on these videos.

Josh, reckon you should route plan a better version of this based on your suggestions during your summary.

Currently on the GB Divide, not long passed the area on the thumbnail/ with the old house and farm sheds in the background. Wow this is tough! Some immense sends downhill though! Was not expecting that hike a bike after Oykel Bridge! 😅

Thanks for the summary Josh, its removed a little of the anxiety I have about tackling it in about a months time. Do you think the midges will have made and appearance by the middle of May?

Quite a nice route,and thankyou for your useful info! It could be definitely be improved. I for one have no intention of riding through Manchester(or any other big city ). You may know of an event named the EWE (England-Wales_England) which is a very nice but hard route. It was a thing before Gravel bikes emerged, and I did it on a hardtail mtb. I like the idea of planning a better route. Only problem being I'll be too bloody old to ride it as it will take ages to plan what with the receeing etc.

Interesting thoughts on the route, I live in the Mendips and have riden the GBDivide section and thought, hmm why just ride over the Mendips when you could ride along them? I know when they were putting the route together they said that they wanted to keep it gravel bike focused, so given the choice of rutted bridlepath or road, they chose road. Perhaps there's room for GBDivide+ that leans a bit more towards MTB and focuses on getting all the best trails where possible. Could end up being a lot longer + tougher though ?

For instance... if I was to edit the route on the Mendips [ heading South ] I'd keep the Burrington to Beacon Batch trig but then head West for the next trig at Wavering Down, then over Bleadon Hill where you can pick up a gravelly bike path to Burnham on Sea & Highbridge before heading to the Quantocks

Fenomenally epic adventure! For those itching to undertake a similar adventure, would you be willing to disclose roughly how much your expenses were for the trip, train not included? Thanks!

Well i only really eat shop food and its probably averages out about £10~ a day. Thats the only real cost when im on the trail. Did stay at a hotel at the end which was £65.

£10 a day is about as low as you can go unless you're trying to as a challenge. That's enough to eat very well out of shops but you'll need a stove for hot drinks if you like those. After that, costs escalate pretty quickly! You're lucky if you can buy a coffee for under £2.50 and you won't get much change from a tenner for a cheap meal at a cheap cafe or pub. Keep Smiling probably does it as cheaply as possible without being a martyr, though I suspect a lack of Ginsters on this trip as they're not especially cheap for the amount of calories but those pasties at the end probably made up for it.

Hi Josh do you think as a 68year old this could be done on my ebike
@morekeepsmilingadventures
@morekeepsmilingadventures Жыл бұрын
it's possible for sure but a lot will depend on the battery id guess, there is a big section in scotland where there is pretty much nothing along the route where you might struggle to find a charge. it would take a bit of planning and probably will need to come of the route sometimes too. The route is in the description to get and idea of the places you will pass.
