When I got my first job in an industrial setting I went and got a pair of 1907's because I wanted a boot that would last and would be able to get resoled, 2 years later I got the resole and they're still the most comfortable boot I own.

I actually own both model boots, 1907 in size 11D and 875 in size 10E2. From day one, the 1907 was much easier to break in than the 875 and the 1907 feels way more comfortable with the cushioned insole. Regardless of the differences, I enjoy wearing both boots equally. So for those people with wide feet, you definitely will need to purchase different sized boots in order for your feet to feel comfortable in them.

Perfect comparison!!! Thank you so much for making this one for everyone trying to learn the difference between 23 and 45 last. The Norwegian "like" welt has been a mystery from the start, but I think they at least partially added it to make the profile of the toe box appear to be lower profile.

I started off with the 1907 then added the 875 as a second pair. I still own the 1907. The extra room just works better for my feet. I wear them without the added leather insole. I bought the 8883 after getting rid of the 875 and other than the Concrete Rough & Tough taking longer to break in they're now just as comfortable as the 1907.

From my experience I can say if you have a wide foot go with the 1907. I have an very wide foot but the 1907 in 9.5EE fit perfect. I have had mine for 2 years and they never come off my feet I use them for work I use them for hiking (I’m in south Florida so flat ground wouldn’t recommend for rocky trails as they don’t have tread) I clean them up and wear them casually they are perfect for any occasion. If you are going to buy a pair just know that breaking them in will be a long painful process but when they are good and broken in there is nothing more comfortable.

I want to say that in the 5 and a half years I've owned my 1907s, these have definitely been the best boots I've owned. I love that they come with the insole (on my 2nd pair of insoles now) and I definitely like the snuge feel with it in. I've had them re-soled 2 years ago with the Vibram heavy lug *as seek on the ice breaker. Didn't add anything for comfort but you get used to it. I mainly wanted the sole for the grip and longevity. I've also had the heal pocket repaired by Redwing, it's just a 1-1.5mm price of black leather they glue and stitch into the rear of the boot. My opinion they are definitely worth the money.

My chukkas keep on going and I love them, probably another ten yrs left in them. That being said, my finance just bought me a pair of 1907…. I was expecting a bit of wearing in needed, I needed none. A beautiful boot and I don’t wear anything but red wing footwear these days, for general use ( not work or gym). They cost £330 and are a perfect boot.

I went with the 1907s. I have wide flat feet with fallen arches. The 1907s broke in quickly and are now superbly comfortable. The leather laces are crap, and literally snapped the first time I tried to lace the boots. Thankfully they came with some regular laces which are lasting well. Redwing London sent me replacement laces right away.

I own the 877 and the 1907 ( the 1907 was my first pair of redwings), and I surprisingly find that the 877 - which is on the same last as the 875- was easier for me to break in compared to the 1907 which I took the inserts out of at the advice of a redwing employee from a stridewise video. Both are fantastic after being broken in, and these are pretty much the only shoes I wear anymore.

Red Wing may say that the 875s and 877s are built on the last, but the toe boxes are very different. The 877s have a wider toe box, which similar in appearance to the 1907s. If 877s and 875s use the same last, then the leather panels that make up the boots are “clicked” differently.

I have three other pairs of Red Wing Moc Toes, but not the 875, oddly enough (navy, black and Slate Muleskinner). Can't beat the quality, not too bad to break in and they always look great. Great video!! I own the 1907, a beautiful boot, maybe the nicest I've ever owned(?) I love the copper rough and tough leather. Tip: If you do get these, break in without the insole, wear your foot into the leather footbed + break in the leather upper. Then, 1-2 months later, put in the leather insole. Initially a tough break in, but now I really like them. I do not wear these on the jobsite, though-- too nice. ... I purchased the 875 for my GF, who wears it all around plus on the jobsite-- a great boot as well. As in the video, I think the 875 last fits a touch thinner than the 1907. In the 1907 I can wear a 12D, in the 875 I wear a 12E. Nice products.

I've been wearing the 10875's (nearly identical, but their explicitly work boot version) for a year or so now. I'm a big fat bastard with wide feet, so definitely the EE version of the boot and the soles broke in fairly easily. Better, the soles have withstood a year of my standing on them without any problems and are still comfortable. They're not soft, but my feet also feel good at the end of the day. I don't care what color the leather is exactly, so I soak them in leather waterproofer (KG-XTREME) and they are holding up really well so far. Glad I bought them.

If you don't really care about the colour all that much, then I would suggest the 1907 because you have a better bang for your buck. You are definitely right about the 1907 lasts accommodating a wider foot. I tried on the 875's and they were just too narrow, crowding my toes. When I went to an E width on the 875's, the toe box was wide enough, but the heel was pretty loose. I tried on both my normal size and 1/2 size smaller and neither fit well for me. The 1907's in my normal sneaker size fit much better. For a $30 upgrade, the (Red Wing) store replaced the top two sets of eyelets with speed laces, which they did right there in the store. A great upgrade, IMO. I have a pair of Iron Rangers in the same copper rough and tough leather. They are about 90% broken in now and very comfortable. Warning about any non-standard insert on the 1907's - they will squeak like crazy until you break them in. The stock leather inserts are quiet. I'm going to try the talcum power trick and see if the comfort inserts get the silent treatment.

I recently purchased a pair of 1907's and experienced the same thing, in store. Having had other boots that were leather, and had leather foot beds, I knew they would Bed In, and they do pretty quickly, and your foot sinks down into the boot. Also, I heard somewhere it was a good idea with 1907's to take out the insole, giving you more room, bed them in, then later put the insole back in. It will take a lot less time to break in the insole, and cork will already be the shape of your foot.

I own both of these, 1907s and the Black 8849s and I also have some of the newer Thorogood 1892s with the 'waterproof' liner . 10.5D for all, and I vastly prefer my 1907s to the 8849s. I have worn the 8849s as my daily driver work boot for about 6 months before needing a resole, and ironically they have stretched out so much from work that the 1907s have a more snug fit. I'd still be rocking my 8849s but I took a chance on a different resole and didn't like the result, maybe I'll have them done again with another RW or a vibram christy. Comparing both RW boots to the Thorogoods they definitely feel more solid than the Thorogoods, but the thorogoods needed ZERO breaking in to feel comfortable. I doubt I'll get much life out of the Thorogoods like I have all of my RW boots, I picked up the thorogoods with a boot voucher from work while I am waiting for a set of Nicks Overlanders to be built. I also have a set of 10D Iron Rangers, and for my personal foot - the Iron Rangers are EASILY the best fitting boots and most comfortable. I've also had them the longest and it's like giving my feet a hug whenever I put them on. My feet measure a whisker under an 11 in a Brannock and between a C and a D in width.

I own both pairs. The 875 was much easier to break in than the 1907's and I'm still working on the 1907's. I do prefer the looks of the 1907 though. You can't go wrong with any of them.

I just bought the 1907's yesterday and so far I love them. People talk about the break in being torture on these American Heritage series but these really aren't that bad. It may be because they have the leather insole. There is a little bit of a rough feel inside on top of my foot and a little harsh on the heel because they're a snug fit, that will break in with a little time. I can easily wear them 8-9 hrs a day out of the box though. The trick is to not buy them loose at all. I tried the 12 wide because the 12d are a little tight but too much play is what will hurt you because of the stiff leather. They should almost feel a little too tight and then they will stretch to perfection. If they fit with too much wiggle room out of the box they will stretch too much and not be as comfortable in the long run. That has been my experience anyways. Thorogood and Red Wing are my favorite Moc Toe boots so far. Ive never tried Nicks or Whites though. I also tried the Red Wing Traction Lite boots and they have too much cushion in the sole. My knees were hurting with those boots. The more firm sole is actually better, it might just be me but I found firmer is better.

I wear my 1907 in size 9D with thick socks. My toes can wiggle with no pressure. Wonderfully comfortable there, but the right heel still rubs and moves around. I always need to put a big Band-Aid on there. Now I a bit regret I should have chosen size 8.5D instead.. For reference, I wear Adidas sneakers in size 10, Frye harness boots in 9M/9D, Clarks Wallabee boots in 9.5.

The redwings boom or peak in Japan was in the mid 90s of the last century. 80s was "American Casual" style whilst the 90s was Workers' style globally. Both styles have RW. In mid 90s Japan-only edition like the red leather 8875 as well as the light yellow roughout leather version of moctoe were only available in Asia. I guess over 90% consumers in Asia were merely following the fashion trend.

Found myself in this predicament last year, it’s probably worth mentioning that the 1907 is arguably better value as it comes with about 50 bucks worth of free accessories in the footbed and the laces. I ended up getting the 877s in the end so all was for nothing, but if I had to choose I’d go 1907

Go with the 877s. 8-inch boots are FAR more comfy than than 6-inch boots. They feel like the slipper socks you may have worn as a kid. Red Wing also made/makes the Copper Rough-N-Tough in an 8-Inch version.

I bought a pair of 1907s a few months ago and they are the first nice pair of boots I've ever owned. Unfortunately, after fully breaking them in, they are probably a half size too large. In hindsight, I probably should have went with the double wide width and half a size smaller........ the solution? Make your own insoles out of a square of 9 oz vegtan. It's about twice as thick as the insole it comes with and it will form to your foot quite wonderfully. I also made another pair for my Irish Setter work boots, and they've gotten significantly more comfortable.

Last year, I bought a pair of redwing 875 after the 2021 mocktober series. One of the best purchases I've ever made. I wore them throughout the year for everyday life, through heavy rain (got these boots and my feet entirely and thoroughly soaked in the process btw), wore them for 10km to 25km hikes. They even survived a bicycle accident better than I did, eg. with no visible scar 😅 Still no need for a resole yet. They do have that custom footprint now. Although they are not as squishy as modern sneakers, their sturdiness and support gives them a unique confort which lasts even after extended periods of standing up and walking on concrete, gravel or anything else really. If you take good care of them, they will take good care of you 🤝

I would argue there is a 4th difference (though I am not sure whether you can label it a big difference): These boots have a slight but noticeable difference in silhouette. The difference is pretty subtle, but you can see it well at the shot from the front at 0:07 as well as side by side at 0:11. The toe box is not as high. And the front of the shoe does not curve upward quite as much. As a result, it retains Red Wing's satisfying chunkiness and overall look, but the front of the shoe is better proportioned in a way that is slight but visually still significant when you are wearing them. This is why I use a secondhand pair of 875 as dog walking and working boots. And I use a clean pair of 1907's for style and leisure. To me, that slight difference makes them look significantly better.

I own some 1907s. I chose them because I liked their look over the 875s (color of leather and fake storm welt, as Weston just told me). I heard that Red Wings are hard to break in, so the insert in the 1907s was also a consideration. By the time I bought them, I had a few other boots in my rotation, but it still took me about six months to break them in, wearing them at least twice a week. The heel was the only problem. Once broken in, I can wear them all day doing yard work and walking my dog. These 1907s are definitely my favorite work boot (I like them better than my Iron Rangers), but I’ve got plenty of other favorites when I venture away from home.

I have a pair of 10877 Redwings (essentially 8” work version of the 875 - close to original “Irish Setters”). I use them for casual and light work. Probably my favourite boots - comfortable, tough, look good, good for my narrow feet. Surprisingly harder to break in than my Nicks Builder Pros, but fit unbelievably well after.
