2:27 That's actually because the camera you used was modified to super16mm by exchanging the gate from the original 4:3 one. So the Viewfinder is actually very acurate, it just doesn't cover the additional frame space that you get with the super 16 conversion. Cheers!

Damn so what would be the best way to frame for a shot? I just bought a super 16 model
@decristoforo1
@decristoforo1 Жыл бұрын
@@johansermartinez9287 Congrats to your purchase! Just keep in mind that the frame goes approx. 25% further on the right side than what you see on set. So what I did was, if I wanted a person frame center in the final image, I would frame them slightly to the right in the viewfinder. In general its good to keep the frame slightly wider than what you intend since you might want to crop in to frame out dust or particles on the gate edges. Since you can’t detach the entire Mag like with Arri SR cameras, checking the gate in between shots isn’t an option

Great and informative Video! Crazy cool results on the music video- really cool! I also shot on a K3 for the first time recently and I loved it. I think the problem you mention with the framing comes from the conversion to Super16. Originally the camera shoots in 4:3/ regular 16 but it`s fairly easy to convert it to Super 16 (using a broader filmgate and a lens re-centering ring to make use of most of the negative)...this of course is great but also means that the actual center of the image is about 10 percent more to the right compared to the viewfinder view.

Goddam love mine!, although shooting anything unpredictable such as wildlife or surfing is testing. I don’t hunt but I imagine it’s similar in relation to the patients needed to just wait for the right moment and hope you don’t blow it haha. Here in Australia one roll after purchase, processing, telecine and shipping works out around $300 🤯

Are you sure your K3 wasn't actually converted to Super16 which resulted in a misaligned frame? This is also why i can't stand these conversions and just rather wanna shoot normal 16mm as it was supposed to be. And if you can#t find a M42 wide-lense you could have just as well gotten a K-mount Lens with manual F-stop and an M42 Adapter.

Good video. My K-3 is in the mail to me. I will be trying my m42 Carl Zeiss Jena 20mm f4 for wide shots. It's a great lens. Standard shots with a m42 Takumar 24mm. I will also try a Mir-1 37mm with an anamorphic adapter.

@@nikkohunt Hi Nikko, I watched your other K-3 video on the making of the music video. The music video turned out great. I can see what I might accomplish with that camera. I like your teaching style, so I watched the Burma video too. I'm a geography professor in Texas and will show that one in class because it conveys a sense of place. I subscribed and will watch your others. I started making place based documentaries in 2019 and the third M42 lens I use is the Zeiss Biotar 58mm. Small, light, inexpensive, with an imperfect look were the criteria for the m42s. I added an inexpensive speed booster and tripled the focal lengths and utility. I needed an inexpensive film studio in a small back pack and found it. I appreciate your work. Thank you

On the side of the Krasnagorsk, is a knob that has the shutter speed numbers 8 - 12 - 16 - 24 - 32 and 48 on it. Above each number is a red dot. We simply put the setting on 8 or 12 and swung the camera round a bit!

How did you guys swap the film reels inside the camera during the shoot? To my knowledge the K3 only accepts two 100ft spools of films, which is equal to about 5 mins of footage. Is that all you guys needed for each day?

great video! I just bought a k-3.still waiting for it to arrive. I have a question how do you record sound when making short films or any video with the k-3 since it doesn't record sound.
@nikkohunt
@nikkohunt 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Jules, we used our Iphone to record sound, and a film slate to indicate what scene we were shooting. This helped us sync the sound in post. When we recorded each take, we named the voice memo the same name we had on the film slate. You can also use external recorders such as the zoom H4N or any field recorder for that matter.

unless I'm mistaken, the K3 has a M42 mount, which should give you an insane choice of lenses... Most M42 photo lenses should be used with this camera. I'm a photographer and I have a Tair 11A and several other good photo lenses with the m42 mount. The Helios and its swirling bokeh is fun too, and very cheap.

Yeah, I think about 10 years ago, 100€ was the price that you usually would pay for a K3 with a bunch of accessories. (Here in Germany). But sometimes even less than that. I've seen them go for 50-60€ on eBay if it was just the camera with the meteor lens and nothing else with it.
