Revelation tells us (paraphrasing) "Do not add or take away from this book" meaning the book of Revelation. Of course you could assume that it would probably not be good to add or take away from any of the books of the bible... However, more than anything, it is best not to change the actual meaning of the words in the bible. However, lots of passages in the bible are interpreted in many different ways, and oftentimes passages have more than one meaning behind it. So alas, I guess we'll see in the end what God thinks about everything ;)

My senior pastor used the Passion translation for a little while. He enjoyed the language and he leans charismatic himself. However, as he read it, he did start to see the strange disconnections. At about the same time, I presented him with what I had learned about the translation from you, Pastor Mike, and he very readily put it down. What you were talking about regarding the label "translation" and the immediate assumption we have about translations being put forward by a team of people is absolutely true. And language like this really appeals to people who lean more charismatic; though I would hope and pray that those who have a good understanding of the Bible will see the deception before too much damage is done.

As a native greek speaker, I was curious enough to see how they translated the Gospel of John and they butchered one of the most important chapters of Christian theology (John 1). Translating λόγος as 'The Living Expression' is crazy. Also, in Revelation they changed Alpha and Omega to Alef and Tav. They are really holding tight to the belief that the NT was not written in greek. Scary to see how people are accepting this so-called translation.

the lead pastor of my church used TPT so I shared this video with the campus pastor at my church. his response was "ur right it should be used as a paraphrase instead of an actual translation" but then one of the other pastors used it again later. I shared it in a group message with a men's group I'm part of and everyone just ignored it like they didn't want to start anything . frustrating that people don't take this seriously because they don't want to stir the pot.

Initially, I was also very seduced by the Passion Translation. I researched, only superficially, Brian Simmons, and was misled by his claims of authenticity. I will say this, although I like to think of myself as a completely logical thinking person, when I received the Passion Translation, it felt really odd to me, I can't really explain it. I packed it up, shipped it back and kind of felt a relief when it was gone. Having spent these past few years as a reborn Christian, and studying every single day-only the approved translations, I think I have perhaps developed a discernment. That is amazing to me. The Lord by his Holy Spirit really does guide me, even when I don't expect it. Thank you for your continued enlightenment, Pastor Mike. I really appreciate it

Reading all the way back to the earliest Christians can also give a lot of insight into how the church has developed over time and either done better or strayed from the truth in different areas. That was enough for me.

I don't believe in the Passion Translation either, but you're talking about Psalm 8:5. In that verse the literal Translation is that man is "created a little lower than Elohim." The Strong's Concordance definition of the word Elohim is: Strong's Definition: Plural of H433; gods in the ordinary sense; but specifically used (in the plural {thus} especially with the article) of the supreme God; occasionally applied by way of deference to magistrates; and sometimes as a superlative: - {angels} X {exceeding} God (gods) ({-dess} {-ly}) X (very) {great} {judges} X mighty. "But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let them be under God's curse!" Galatians 1:8 This is the same very old satanic tactic we were warned about many times that seems to work with too many. Same thing as Mormonism (Book of Mormon) after an "angel" told someone he had new, illuminating words from God; Islam - an "angel" told him of new, illuminating words from God (Koran). The ones who don't have some angel telling them something, just cleverly "mistranslate" some things, as in the New World Translation. If you're satan, these should all be expected and not surprised. Looks like this type of thing will probably increase as satan knows "his times is short" and yes, we need all the "truth tellers" as we can get. Prayers and support for Mike and all who have him on their channels!

At 3:18, it seems clear that Brian doesn't understand where we get the word "passion" from. It comes from the Latin "pati", which is to "suffer" or "endure". Therefore, "The Passion" of the Christ literally means "the suffering/enduring of the Christ". Not "the great euphoric emotion of Jesus from the heavenly realm of joy". This only goes to further prove the NAR movement's obsession with emotion, particularly euphoric emotion. Edited for typo.

These false prophets and false teachers are the very ones God speaks of in Jeremiah: "Thus says the Lord of hosts: “Do not listen to the words of the prophets who prophesy to you. That’s the problem with doing a new translation. You start changing things just for the sake of changing things. In order for the reader to feel they are reading something new or “getting their money’s worth” you really don’t have a choice. So now you are not trying to be accurate, but trying not to disappoint the audience. If your translation is identical to others then really what was the point? It sounds like anyone who would take on such a task is hungry for some sort of human recognition & finding a grand purpose in life. The Bible has basically been translated as much as it can possibly be translated without losing integrity of the original text. If you want to add commentary that would make more sense & be less dangerous because you aren’t declaring your words to be the infallible words of God. I would be much too terrified to do my own translation. The risk far outweighs the reward.
@xTwilightWolvesx
@xTwilightWolvesx Жыл бұрын
@@JC-li8kk It depends on the intention of the translation. The original languages are difficult to translate into English, so often a choice has to be made. You either take each word in its most literal form, or you take the whole verse and phrase it in a way that the reader will understand what the original intention of the verse was. Various translations do a bit of both to different degrees. Bibles like the NASB add footnotes for alternative translations so you can make up your own mind on what the passage means. If you’re worried that you aren’t getting the real truth of God’s Word, try learning Hebrew, Greek and Aramaic, and study from the manuscripts yourself. It’s time-consuming, but it’s the only way you’re going to get the complete truth out of God’s Word.

@@matthewcooper4248 The last clause should read "of our God and Saviour Jesus Christ." The Greek construction uses both words 'God' and 'Saviour' of Jesus, whereas the KJV seems to separate the two. The reason for this is that this grammatical construction in Greek (the Granville-Sharp construction, after the one who discovered it) hadn't been discovered yet at the time the KJV was being translated. I'm not saying this to say the KJV is bad or that you should stay away from it. It is a very good translation. What I was trying to point out is that it's not the perfect, be-all and end-all of translations, which seemed to be what Alec was getting at. Nothing like The Passion 'Translation', I'm just going against KJV-onlyism.

My husband's been a Christian for a long time so I would converse with him about the things I was reading and sometimes he would tell me he didn't think I was reading it correctly or I didn't understand..... Since giving my heart to the Lord Ive been aware that false teachings are out their and I try to do research but I thought TPT would be okay because my grandad gave it to me but my heart is overwhelmed listening to this! Thank you so much for this. Before I stopped going to the Salvation Army in Dunedin, New Zealand there was a Sunday where a Passion translation passage was used. The sermon and thus the lesson felt to me like the underlying message was "Here is the Old Scripture and let's see how these various and newer translations put it." The Passage translation appeared to be held in very high regard by the leadership and none of my acquaintances supported my view that the Passage scripture was so different to the original text that God's point, if you like, was utterly twisted if not lost altogether through the distortion of the meaning of the language. Not to mention all the extra wordage, not that that is a bad thing in itself. At the same time, for me personally there appeared to be a bright yet somehow creepy glow emanating from the Passion translation words on the paper, more so than the text from the other newer translation which was from The Message. Then the discussion was centered around which translation do we prefer rather than "What is God trying to teach us?" It's slippery and subtle and left me feeling somehow bereft. Not because no-one else agreed with me, it was just that all the different translations represent such a giant rabbit hole to fall into. To me, it's a sign of the times.

Revelation 22:18-19 'For I testify to every man that hears the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add to these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.' The most striking thing I'm picking up, is that the 'translator' has not been straitened / disciplined by the word of God which we already have in both testaments, including Who the Holy Spirit is, and what His role is, according to Jesus, which is why the suggestion that 'Jesus' gave him new revelation is such a plausible device.

Interesting that no other translation mentions that the source text mentions a Cannanite. I can see where TPT is coming from, and it likely does capture the essence of what is being communicated. I have inly read Ephesians in TPT, and I thought it was a beautiful translation, albeit a very dynamic one as opposed to a literal translation. It expanded on Biblical language that I understand naturally after many years of studying the Bible, language that flies over the heads of people new to the Bible. It seems like a very good introductory translation. Greek and Hebrew words are very rich, and I get so much out of learning about the source texts, and TPT is longer as it attempts to flesh out the richness of the source text and, as I said, expand upon the language based upon other Biblical context. I have not personally found a blatant falsehood in the translation. And, I feel that dynamic translations should always be referenced with literal translations.

Hey Pastor Mike. Thanks so much for your insight and willingness to bring this stuff to light. This last summer you inspired me to do my own digging into the passion translation and so glad I did. The result is around 200+ pages of notes and sources of scholars, pastors and regular people for around 25 main issues with the passion translation. I also created a shorter document around 80 pages to summarize the info. Your comparison chart was what started my interest in this subject. I made an expanded one with about 50 + words comparing the top 10 major versions, which branched into a whole bunch of other areas and issues. I came out of some major Bethel and IHOP teaching years ago so have a heart for this stuff for helping other people to see. If you ever have a bit I would love to chat with you about it. @@juliemayes2027 O wow thanks for the interest! I eventually do want to write an E-book about it. Once I have them more organized I would be happy to get it out to others in that format. I am starting an Apologetics website as well soon so I will have some of it on there (not trying to plug that or anything on someone else's channel haha) If there is a way to direct message me on here Julie I could try to send you some of what I have thus far.

Ive had deep concerns of The Passion Translation and The Message

TPT makes The Message look interlinear Eugene Peterson is very up front with the fact that The Message shouldn't be used for any legitimate study beyond casual reading and recommends a word-for-word translation to his readers of The Message I fundamentally dislike The Message and it does a TON of things that rub me the wrong way, but it doesn't even CLAIM to be a legitimate translation like TPT does

@@justinj_00 even so hordes of Christians and Christiab leaders use it as legitimate scripture. I agree with you and even brought that to a pastor’s attention a couple years ago. She got quite defensive, rude, and it basically ended the friendship/mentorship. Was part, but not the beginning, of the end of my relationship with the church. She was reading the Message daily, staff was, and eventually many of the church members. The church haa been spiraling since. And then she (eventually they) started diving right into TPT as soon as it came out and she gets aggressive whenever anyone says she shouldnt be using that either 🤦🏻‍♀️. The whole “Im the one with the title you arent, you arent qualified to know what you’re talking about” mentality 🙄🤦🏻‍♀️🙏🏼

@@justinj_00 The Mesaage is not even good for casual reading. It changes the very words of Jesus and downgrades God from being almighty. Eg.when Jesus taught on prayer, He said (Matthew 6:10) "Your kingdom come. Your will be done, On earth as it is in heaven." The Message says: "Do what’s best- as above, so below." That last line is from the occult. There is no way Jesus would have blurred the lines between light and darkness. The Message is not a book inspired by God. Psalm 24:1 says "The earth is the Lord’s, and all it contains..." The Message says "God claims Earth and everything in it..." Can you see how the Message downgrades God? In the Message, God claims what doesn't belong to Him. The Bible says everything belongs God. There are plenty more examples...

A while back I got a devotional that uses verses from the passion “translation”. I hadn’t used it, but just yesterday (which is when I found out it used verses from TPT), cracked it open and flipped through it and compared one the passages it used from TPT to my KJV, and I noticed the extra words. I found that quite odd. I decided to watch this video, and now I know why! I will likely get rid of the devotional, and I won’t be going anywhere NEAR the TPT.
