Glad to see folks in trout green. I was thankful just to see sandy green. What a bummer to drive 90 minutes to see chocolate milk. Even with that we took some tasty whiting. Anyhow congrats.

loooove me some good whiting.

Surf conditions like that are the ONLY reason I would consider a Van Staal reel... Great video, I learned alot more about fishing the surf!
@Mffl10142 жыл бұрын
Smallest van stall I think is the vr 50 and imo the reel would be to big for what he’s doing so idk maybe I would go with just a very nice shimano or Daiwa spinning reel that is sealed off

The long stringer comment.... I launched my kayak from sportsman launch, fished Gangs, put some nice reds on my stringer, pedaling back to sportsman in only 3ft of water close to the homes, felt a hard pull on my stringer, saw one of my reds in a sharks mouth and he popped my string off the kayak breaking the clip. That was last week. I was more upset that my $35 stinky pants was gone.

Haven't hooked anything from Freeport to San Luis Pass surf & the Jetties since the end of June.. We were smoking 20" plus size Spec's on MirrOdine Lures & the Corky Fattie Texas Chicken. If there's Spec's in that water? The big Momma's will smoke that Corky. Winds have been tough also & the storms we got at the beginning of May kinda killed our bite. I haven't seen anyone catch anything using Lures or live shrimp off the Surfside jetties this past month. Just trash fish like hardheads. I go every morning before sunrise after I drop my Son off at work. Just a tad too rough out there lately

makes me want to head down there again, im up in Houston so it aint much of a drive. i never really know where i can bring my truck onto the beach, are there designated places or like places with easy access?
@BeforeOutdoors2 жыл бұрын
All you have to do is head west off the seawall towards San Luis and you will see signs that say public access! Usually just little chunks of beach without houses behind them

another question, how do you prep your fish for cooking, any brine or chilling? or just straight off the fish onto the pan? one thing for sure is it looks real good! ill have to give that a try.

Just straight from fish to pan! Thanks for watching!

How’s that Slx dc reel holding up after that? I’ve had mine for about 5 months and exclusively inshore wade fish with it and even tho it’s been babied and never soaked it’s grindy and rusty inside. It’s not so bad that I’m able to simply give it some oil and turns and the grinding goes away for the most part but I can definitely see rust inside.
@BeforeOutdoors2 жыл бұрын
It’s still working but It definitely needs a deep clean!

I’m heading to Galveston end of this week and I’ve never been salt water fishin, but avid in freshwater. I’ve looked at videos and reviews fishing from the pier but like this idea too. Can you catch them all day like this in the surf or is it more of a very early/late bite? Those tacos look amazing by the way!
@tyler.foster2 жыл бұрын
Definitely helps to fish early morning, once about 10:30 - 11 hits is when the fishing pretty much dies but you can still catch sheepshead, sand trout and some flounder too.
@BeforeOutdoors2 жыл бұрын
It’s definitely a morning or evening bite but there are still a few stragglers hanging around all day. The later it gets the deeper you have to go on the beach. Thanks for watching
