Really awesome tutorial, with nice story times... After a rather long time I was able to do this pattern. Thrilled! The wonders of working the lace threads came clear. Thanks to you and your kind explanations, I finally understand and now have an ever growing enthousiasm. And I certainly agree about winding the bobbins 😁

I really enjoy your tutorials. Don't stop talking, in depth tutorials without chatting are so hard to follow, mainly because my mind starts wandering. It's really helpful when you show examples by laying them on a neutral background, the lace is so fine that it's hard to see with a busy background. Even your hands can be distracting.

Thank you! I'm a knitter who is fascinated with lace. I just started bobbing through your videos. I am very grateful. About your thread skein, you need to have someone hold the skein un-twisted between both hands while you wind a ball. Working off a skein is unbelievably tasking. A lesson we all learn from just once. Thank you again!!!! -I love seeing both views- bobbins, and thread.

I've always been curious about bobbin lace, and now your videos make it seem much easier than it looks in real life with little old ladies (bless their hearts, I love them) with about a million bobbins filling up their entire 20" disc bolster. I'm seriously thinking about teaching myself using clothespins and a makeshift bolster, and instructions online (like your videos). If you ever decide to pick up bobbin lace again I would LOVE to see more videos of it! Either way, I hope you're having a good time and surviving this pandemic!

First learned bobbin lace 35years ago and always found it very relaxing to do. Family life & work did not give me enough time to keep up this hobby. I am now at the stage in my life when things need to be slowing down a bit and stumbled across your video. With great excitement I retrieved my lacemaking supplies out of the attic and today I have made this bookmark. I could not have done it without your help and I thank you for that. I have enjoyed every moment, which of course included correcting my mistakes. I have made this for my daughter with love in every twist and who now wants me to teach her the craft. Thank you so much and I am looking forward to learning more with you in the near future.

Thank you for this video, particularly how to finish off the bookmark neatly - that's something I wasn't taught when I learned as a child and haven't been able to find so far anywhere else (I suppose it could be snuck away in some fine print in my huge stash of patterns that I haven't properly looked through yet, but I have skimmed through most of them and didn't see this technique). I'm so pleased to have a neat and secure way of finishing it off, rather than leaving them all as a fringe or gathering all the threads and just tying them off together!

I love that you’re able to just take bobbin lace up again so quickly, I still do use the colored beads to make my pairs are still lined up. Two ways to hang bobbins: side by side used often for passive threads, these separate or rainbow, which will hold together. Check your Practical Skills Book. You may have accidentally started your previous bookmark by using side by side on your beginning so you have the separation. Enjoyed your video.

Loving these videos and hearing you while you work. It’s amazing! I would however love to see some time-lapse of what you do when you’re not explaining how; maybe it it’s a repetitive pattern you could zoom through parts you’ve already shown us fully? Have you got any advice for bobbin lace on a budget/with very little space? Also does it cause you any pain after you’ve been working on something for a while? I’m a little concerned about arthritis.

Janet! If you havent figured it out yet, beads can be used with bobbin lace! One way my tutor has done this is by stringing beads directly onto her thread and then winding it. I didnt get to see her use it though, so I have some questions still! Lol

@serenitycraft8557 5 жыл бұрын
@@barkingsheep5224 I know with needle tatting, we put the beads on the thread and the pull a bead up to place it when we are ready, I imagine it would be the same with bobbin lace. I have only had time to practice a few of the beginner patterns so far and am somewhere between "I will get better" and "burn the proof that I am this bad".

What size of grid paper do you use. I have been using 2.5mm x 2.5mm and printing them. Several sites allow me to make my own grid sizes. One mistake I have made is not using the cloth to cover my pillow. I also keep my lengths too long. Also what size thread are you using? I bought some dark brown bobbins and use those for other color threads.

craftsandnails The paper pattern is pinned in place in the beginning and then I just work the threads over the pattern. Just the combination of twisting the threads, the weight of the beaded bobbins and the angle that I have the pillow at helps in the final product remain tight and firm. When I’m finished I just leave the bookmark pinned in place, and for everything to settle in place for about 24hours. There’s no need to starch. It may be he weight of your bobbins and the angle you have your pillow at. Try that.
