The "Ultimate Compliment" to your "system" would be The Realistic Stereo Reverb System. It was a rather small component, effectively additional source adding or eliminating the reverb "effect" to the "sound scope" to "any" system. I had one. I t was very simple and effective to operate. It had a "silver front finish" to it, keeping with your "look you want to have" It also has a recordable tape monitor loop built in for recording or even, "not" recording the reverberation effect, it provided. In other words, it was designed to "operate like an external equalizer, but instead operate the wanted or non wanted reverb effect, your choice...by the way, it gave you a "live microphone" connection, much like adding "karaoke machine" effect to your system!!! How "neat" you "might find" that??? I used mine to "Graduate Broadcasting School" Because I was "able to to add my voice to my "graduating audition tape" at the time, without using their in school equipment and or splicing a "reel to reel" tape, as l way "supposed to" and "they never "suspected a thing"... How about that??? Anyway, as "compliment"to you sir, you "HAVE" the "ULTIMATE" system, otherwise...If you "ever read this comment" I would be at least "curious to find out", what you think???... Just for your information, "Realistic" was original brand name for Radio Shack, here in the United States, unfortunately they basically no longer exist... But, I sure you could find one for sale on eBay like you have found for most of the "equipment" you have found for your system, sir... Have a Great Day!!! Sincerely, Ray!!!! .

I"m a collector in the sense that I'm constantly working with what I have until something better comes along. Much the story of my pc gaming history, and more relevantly, my audio equipment. We were buying wood from someone who was currently moving out, and the seller just gave away a Denon AVR-2105. I can confirm that the hifi fever is highly contagious. I got an entire system (speakers, receiver, tape deck, CD player, turntable) handed down to me after my grandfather passed away (it was his setup btw) and all work just fine, and I only got it this summer. But I already want to upgrade my receiver mainly because it’s too low profile and not very exciting. I gotta have something with more knobs and switched, damnit! I’m so glad I got into this, though. It’s a super fun hobby that you don’t need to spend too much money on in the beginning. Glad you did this video, too. Hope it got even more people into retro hifis

I was actually quite impressed when I saw that you had those speakers in the background. Polk audio actually makes some of the best sounding floor standing speakers for the money that I've ever heard. Yes it is completely possible to get better sounding speakers. That said when I priced out my S55s I to spend about 150% more to get better sounding speakers. At the time about five grand to drop on a system. I could have waited but honestly I think they sound phenomenal when they are powered via BI-AMP with a very good amp.

I made the mistake of buying a Technics casseiver for a bedroom system - the SA-K2L. Sounds great with tape, but the aux input sounds awful. So I scrapped that idea, and bought separates instead. Sticking with Technics (because my main system is built around an SU-V7, which I love), I've built up a 1979/80-themed stack of SU-8044 amp, ST-8011L tuner, RS-M17 cassette deck and SH-4030 timer (not strictly necessary, but a nice bonus), driving a pair of tiny-but-gutsy SB-F1 aluminium speakers. The cherry on top is an NFC-enabled Bluetooth receiver, so I can connect my phone & tablet. Total spend: under £150! (The timer came with an ST-S3L tuner, too, but I prefer the analogue dial of the 8011.) And the sound? One word - awesome. Looking forward to your recommendations for the rest of your system, Matt!

A think it was a Sharp, but it had everything I could possibly want to use, save a turntable. And, that was easy to hook up via the, 'phono', socket on the back, which I think was a DIN. As for separates; I've only ever bought one and it was a piecemeal affair. Setup my very basic hifi setup about 4 years ago now - managed to get a Yamaha RX-V620RDS (old surround receiver) and a paid of Mordaunt Short Aviano 1XR's. £120 all in. Not massively cheap and not at all as advanced as yours but for the price of that tiny Sonos speaker (or less?), its still going strong! The family friend who persuaded me to go the hifi separates route was horrified that I was on the verge of buying a £40 set of logitech PC speakers for music playback :)

Hi. I have really enjoyed this series! And could you please make a detailed video on the current Hi-Fi you have built and are using now. That would be really interesting to me (and other people, I reckon 😊).

Love your show; it's refreshing to know I'm not the only one who still loves the A/V component electronics of the '70s through the 2000s. Do you know if these dubbed "Casseva's" also come in a Twin-Cassette form on eBay?

I need this! I have been wanting a receiver. Right now I have a small amp from ebay and a thrift shop tuner. I picked up a larger amp at a thrift shop but one side of the audio isn't working. So it's a bust if I can't figure out what's wrong with it. But I have really wanted a receiver to save on space. A casceiver looks like a great idea. I have a dual tape deck from the thrift shop. But I haven't tested it out for record yet since I don't have a tape loop. So it may not even work for record. I think it's time to poke around ebay for a caseiver.

This has been an incredibly helpful video. Sadly, my TV has a habit of freezing occasionally with new uploads. It froze in just the worst moment. I took a picture, but it appears I can't share it in the comments (probably a wise decision on KZbin's part. It's already the internet's dumpster fire.), but it looks like you had a stroke. Big fan of your channel. Thanks for what you do.

Well done mate. I'm really looking forward to this series. I've just gotten into retro HiFi gear, and am currently restoring a B&O 2400-2 which I feel is something you might appreciate if you haven't seen one before.

The problem with current amplifiers receivers is that they don't have phono preamp anymore One thing I like that you did not tell is to have a radio with presets on it

The shelves accommodating the units look very enclosed. It should be noted that some units (e.g. my Cambridge Audio Azur 650A) have vents on the top panel, and air needs to circulate. Otherwise the components could overheat, involving costly and protracted repairs. This, I think, happened to my previous amplifier.

Im pretty happy with my setup at the moment, but the next thing I would like to get is some sort of lighting that reacts to the music. Does that make sense? Been a fan of your output for ages now!!

Even a budget hifi sounds far better than a boombox or music system you get from a retail park.

I spent about $100 building a surround sound system by hitting the thrift stores over 2 months. $29 Yamaha amp. $12 Yamaha subwoofer. $35 Yamaha surround speakers. $25 Blu-Ray player. $8 Blu-Ray remote. $5 wires. I already owned the turntable. My only rule was NO INTERNET because I really do like bargain hunting and just hitting the internet WIN button isn't fun.

i haven't seen a blank cassette sold in maybe 20 years, CDRs and DVDRs are still around. i bought an FM/MP3 player for $25 a couple of months ago. actually sounds pretty good at low to moderate volume levels. it has a slot for micro SD cards, this may be the new "cassette", 2GB-whatever in capacity. i think the computer has taken on the role of the old "Hi-Fi" system (Blu-Ray/DVD/CD). get a decent 2.1 speaker system and you're good, unless you want to "rock the house" and have the police over at 3AM for a noise violation. I got a few "free" computers laying about (friends with the IT guy pays big!) add some cheap SSDs and linux as an OS, i'm good to go! i can "rock the house" for $200 with a refurb computer and a fair set of 2.1 speakers. the computers come with Win10Pro, i hate 10, linux is free. cassette, don"t go there!

You can go a lot cheaper if you use eBay classifieds. Got about 20 devices for 100 eur. Such as a NAD 160,Sansui TA-300,Metz Mecasound 4962,Technics RS BX 606 and so on,all declared to be faulty, few hours of work, some new component and service manuals later,All of them are running like brand new
