It is completely normal and necessary to draw from or with reference, especially in the beginning, when you don't have a big visual library in your head to draw from. It will come from drawing and learning how the things you draw are build and work and how to translate that with your drawing fundamentals. At this point more and more information will be available to you to imagine something with as well.

Inspiring. Thanks for uploading this in its entirety on a platform that caters to a small attention span. Some of us recognize that an hour is a blink of an eye in the face of 150 days. Beyond that, that this activity takes time. This isnt too long. Some of us would spend that same hour watching you fill up one page. Ive watched plenty longer session 'draw with me' type videos that go into that time frame and even beyond, such as what Tim Mcburnie and others put out. I just want you to know. Its appreciated. I want to see more from you!
@RetrogradeShell3 ай бұрын
I also created a highlight video for those that do not have the full time to sit through! There will be some drawing sessions posted in the future as well so stay tuned!

I admire your wanting to include everyone, or maximizing who can see. I mainly dont want you to lessen yourself for any reason, and I caution against it. I figure if people can regularly set aside time for movies, they'll set aside time for this, if interested. Dont cut yourself short for others, thats what got to me. I dont think you saw it that way this time, which is cool. .. I dont know how to word it. Im just trying to say, going forward, please, give no thought to 'am i taking too much time'. Theres no shortcuts that are worth it, in the creative arts and/or KZbin. Have a blessed day. Edit - punctuation

Impressive progress! Keep going! Copying an existing drawing might not *feel* as legitimate as drawing right off the top of your head, but it helps train your observation skill, which is important. I really like your mechs, especially the koi and the crab (36:00)!

Heyya! just made it to the end of the episode. You've made great progress! I want to offer just a couple tips: - in terms of not exploding when you are asked to draw something without reference: practice construction and deconstruction or "mannequinization". Although it can be freeing to work with the circles or any of that, it can also be very useful for gaining form comprehension. I suggest practice several forms of construction to get the full benefit (dot and line skeleton, silhouettes, primitives with contour lines) - your use of line weight is helping quite a bit. where you have several overlapping characters, it may be useful to add some value separation, color, or to vary the line weight in order to keep the visual read smooth. - try out using a block of tone partially overlapping such that it is behind the character. (see the work of Peter Han) - try out working on toned paper. It will change how your eyes behave and allow for adding light. (light guides the eye) - beware of the chicken scratch chicken! he will take your best drawings and make them look a bit amateurish. 🐣

I appreciate the tips! I'll be jumping back to fundamentals at some point which will help! working on the next milestone video from Day 151 - 200 right now!

Every time I watch a video like this, I'm impressed by your progress, but then the darkness hits. It shows me just how much I fail at everything. After four days, I can’t even draw a straight line, and it's not like I’m new to this. I've tried for years, but I always quit and when I do try, it just makes me feel worse because I can’t seem to improve. It feels like no matter what I do, I’ll fail. I’m just a loser, born to fail and die as one. But still, I have to say, your progress is incredible. I think it’s awesome that you’re sharing it with others, even though it doesn't give me hope. It’s inspiring for others, and that's something to be proud of

I dont know if what im about to say is right but this is the same type of mindset I had for 2 years or so when I was doing art. And in those 2 years all my progress couldve been easily done within a month or two. Ever since I stopped being so negative on myself my skills actually started improving. A tip I could give is that you shouldint track your progress as days but track your progress with the time you spend practicing.
@gojo480810 күн бұрын
@@epico1003 I practice like hours a day, but I can't do anything yk. I will Still try, and just draw from reference now cause learning the basic shit is hell
@epico100310 күн бұрын
@@gojo4808 Hate to put this bluntly but you really have to practice the fundamentals of art to get better. Practicing everyday is important but it needs to be paired with studying to be effective. Doing the basic shit is hell trust me I know, its taken me months just to get barely decent at one of the fundamentals but it gets fun once you get the hang of it.
@gojo480810 күн бұрын
@ Yeah but its almost too much, its too much you need to learn, and almost anybody tells you how much time for one exercise so i am like dumb.. And just to draw the fundermentals like boxes are good but yk like i said annoying and they take your joy. I think one day fundamentals and next day free to draw is good. If you have a good recommendation i would be happy
@epico100310 күн бұрын
@@gojo4808 Yeah you really gotta go at it 1 step at a time. Like practice one fundamental then move on to the next in the span of however much time you'd like. Also you are already right about that last thing since thats what I do also. Like one day I study and one day I just draw whatever I want putting use of the thing I studdied.

Amazing! But one thing I didn't really understand: did you do a pencil sketch before using the microns? Personally I couldn't even imaging drawing without a pencil sketch beforehand
@RetrogradeShell19 күн бұрын
no sketch, just straight to micron. But if I'm doing a full art piece, I'd likely use a pencil sketch first
